Hey guys, Im just throwing this question out, maybe someone has delt with this before can help me out. As far as aftermarket ws6 hoods go, what hood offers the best bang for your buck. There are many different brands all claiming that their product is superior to any other on the market. Ive decided that it would be easier financially for me to purchase a standard t/a and swap out the hood with a ws6 repleca. If you have purchased one for your car, how was the customer service and how did the hood fit on the car? Obviously aftermarket hoods wont fit as well as a factory hood, but it would be nice to be aware of any major gaps or defects. Also, is it better to go fiberglass or not? Thanks for any advice. :D

damn thats too bad about the ws9 :( .. ive seen some pics of the ascd and it looks good as well. is it a direct replica of the ws6 or are the cowls a different size?

as far as fiberglass goes.. do you need to cure (bake) it first to prevent the paint from forming defects?

the ascd ws6 hood is an exact copy of the stock ws6.

any fiberglass parts are *tough* to paint... hard to tell how it has cured. sometimes it take a while for the paint to settle - you might get things pop up a year after it's painted. only fix is to repaint - but even that may not turn out 100%.

I've got the WS.9 Outlaw, and the fit is great. There's only one place the hood needs to be tweaked, and everything else lines up great - and it's not even been painted or fitted by a body shop, just me and my dad bolting it up and moving it around a bit. I know it's not made any more, but if you could find one on ebay, f-body board classifieds, ect, US Exotics hoods are damn good.

Actually, I just remembered...Roger from USE told me VWF, the guys who make the Sunoco hood I believe, are going to be making the WS.9 hood. You might shoot them an email and see what's up.

Get a GM factory WS6 hood.

You won't be disappointed and I guarantee you won't be completely satisfied with any aftermarket hood.

You can get one for just over $1,000 at gmpartsdirect.com.

Agree on the factory GM, I bought aftermarket, thought I did my homework, bodyman laughed at me, and now I have to use a proprod when I open my hood, hood isn't stout enough for factory struts.

when you purchase from gmparts im assuming that they dont come preped for painting. 1100$ for a hood is out of my budget.. a genuine factory hood would surely be the best fit but im looking for a quality aftermarket hood in the 600$ range.

I'm completely satisfied with mine, and it's not a stock hood. There's one place it needs tweaked, and thats due to the headlight cover and body panels not being quite perfect.

Check around, do your homework, talk to people who have hoods from different companies, and you should be fine.

I've checked around and that's how I know the OEM hood is the only hood that's good enough for me.

DAMN dude. Thats some expensive stuff. I paid 500 for my WS9 outlaw from roger and another 350 for the painting. And your price doesnt even include painting. Also the stock ws6 has baffles in it. Mine did not. And at every car meeting i go to my hood is the talk of it. I would say stock pails in comparision!

It's not just about fitment guys. There are other problems with aftermarket hoods.

For instance, they aren't as smooth as the stock hood and have bumps, dimples, and waves running all throughout.

you need to quit throwing all aftermarket hoods in that catagory. there are some really nice hoods out there - probably even better than the stockers. i cant' tell you how many people have complained about stock ss and ws6 hoods (mostly paint related but still).

even a stock gm hood may not fit perfect... that's why all body panels are adjustable and it usualy takes some type of body work on new parts to make them fit perfect (whether stock parts or aftermarket parts).

i'm just saying - $1000+ on a gm hood is not going to garuntee any better quality or fitment compared to an aftermarket hood.

That's because it's fiberglass - it might need a little work, but nothing a body shop can't handle in a few hours.

Mine doesn't have any bumps, ripples, waves, dents, ect in it. The only part that needs sanded is on the edges, where the top and bottom part of the molds came together.

Look, you'll never convince me that aftermarket hoods are worth the hassle. Let's just agree to disagree because I'm sick of discussing it.

Don't pay too much attention to Yoko, he gets worked up real easily and has difficulty determining fact from theory and opinion.

If you're new to the forum do your research on the forum. Every hood from every possible hood manufacturer has probably been bought from one person or another on this board and alot of people on the forum just state what experiences others have posted on the forum. I don't think Roger makes the US Exotics hoods anymore that everyone raves about. There are alot of factors than can make a hood fit or not fit and I don't think manufacturer is one of them. Cars and even their components manufactured on an assembly line are going to be different within certain tolerances, sad but true. Another point is that cars (especially ours with mucho horsepower and cheapo build) buckle, shift, and warp over time so your probably going to be hit or miss even on a purchase from a known and reliable manufacturer, even a stock GM.

I'm in the same boat as you, want a WS6 type hood but don't have one currently, I will be getting one within a year probably. I have chosen to go aftermarket for various reasons and one of them is weight, the other is looks. Keep this in mind, many hoods call themselves (ws6 replicas) but they're a little different. This is the one I finally decided on getting and it's the Suncoast Creations WS6 hood.

It's pictured on the left next to a GM WS6 hood. Looks better and more aggressive IMHO. It is definitely a little bit taller and more prominent from the inside of the car. If a WS6 driver with a stock hood saw you in the rear view, they would probably think your car was about to eat theirs. Just looks better IMHO and from that distance and any distance on the road, nobody would see any flaws in fitment. Also functionality shouldn't be an issue when purchasing a hood. A lid and Fast Toys Ram Air or Super Sucker is a better induction setup.

Please dude, just don't get that 4" cowl hood. Unless you have a strip only car.
