Well two weeks after my cam install with 120k on the clock...the motor took a dump....what a waste of money........
I knew I should have just saved that towards my engine I wanted to do in the future.......
No I am broke and LT1-less.........
At least I have the 01 Hawk

What took a dump? If it was your bottem end, youre tops end should be ok. This just means you get to rebuild it to be indestrucable....you should be happy!

A lot of high mileage LT1 bottom ends take a dump when you put a cam in there. That's why I won't be putting one in mine.

I'm giving my hot cammed LT1 until the end of this season to take a :turd:. Otherwise I will pre-emptively strike and do a solid rebuild.
Too bad about your luck. What are you going to do with it eventually? Stock rebuild? forged? Bored/stroked?

What size cam did you put in there when it took a dump?

226/236 112lsa .535/.560
I am completely broke so I dont know how long it will sit...luckily my wife has a 98 and we have a 01 Hawk so I still have transportation..
The LT1 money permitting will come back as a mild 383/396 buildup or a 355 nitrous motor....... I expect it to be at least June before I can start to get squared away.........

I added a 228-236-571-114ls cam and lots of mods at 120,000.
I have 132,000 and over 50 12 sec passes and some N/X passes also and the car is running like the day I picked it up when it was stock. Except for the new power and sound.
Just my o2:drive:

I've heard of other LT1s going south after a cam install. What might cause this? I was actually thinking about souping mine up a bit after I get my credit card debt squared away, but I don't want to end up rebuilding the motor....

I thought your car would take a cam, heads, blower, and nitrous, all on the stock shortblock; and last 350,000 miles at the same time, because of the magic motor oil and filters you use   :D

Well I had a chance on Saturday to pull the drivers side valve cover since thats where the noise came from before seizing. Well I pulled it apart and found a broken spring and bent pushrod! The springs were brand new combination motorsports springs good for .600 lift...??? So now I just need to know what happened internally ....

incorrect adjustment would be my guess. there's a chance it could have hurt the cam lobe on that valve...

What kind of adjustment would break the spring??? I dont know internals all that well so Im curious......... I guess I will be building my 383 sooner than planned.

I've heard of the adjustment being out both ways causing the same thing. if it were too loose, the pushrod might have been banging around, and finally hit the rocker wrong, and collapsed the spring. Also, if the lash was too tight, it may have worn the lifter to a point where it let go and the pushrod bent itself when that happened. or there is the chance that you just came upon a weak spring, and it broke and the rod bent when the spring broke.

I think what could've happened here, is that the valvetrain geometry was not checked. Usually, when you do heads and cam, you're supposed to check your pushrods length. Too short of a pushrod, will definitely bust your rockers, and sets off a series of events, like bending a valve and breaking your springs.

What seized?
A bent pushrod and broken valve spring wont seize an engine.
Unless the lifter came out of its bore after the pushrod bent, and dumped oil, dropped oil pressure, etc

Welcome to the Club, in a manner of speaking. I did heads and cam two summers ago. Got a couple of thousand miles out of it before I did the ol main bearing spinarama! Wasn't even beating on it at the time, just about 3,500 rpm on an on ramp and BANG!
This is a common problem on LT1's; just check any of the other boards like CamaroZ28.com and you will see we have lots of company. Another member of our local club just suffered the same fate but he didn't even get a couple of hundred miles out of it before fate raised its ugly hand. As to what I have now, just see my user name - 405 RWHP & 415 RWTQ. The torque "curve" is about as flat as a table top from 2,500 rpm on.
I guess you have to be philosophical about these kinds of things. I had always planned to go the stroker route some time in the future, my time-table just got re-arranged a little bit.:D :drive:

Well I was gonna go stroker but I settled on selling the car and I already purchased a 01 Z06 to replace it......I will miss the LT1 and probably pick one up after I buy a house next year......... no 383 for now :(
