My brother is getting ready to buy a cam for his car what do you guy suggest, does the tr224 like nitrous?

he has

98 trans-am A4
125 nitrous, flowtech headers w/cutout, hooker cat-back ,tci 3500 stall,.3.42 gears,nittos,lid

I told him the cam I bought (tsp231/237) would be a little to big for a A-4 and hard on valve springs, He wants something that lopes put is driveable

The TR224 cam is very popular, and I like to call it the "best of all worlds" cam because it gets decent power, works well in daily drivers, doesnt rev too high, it works well in both A4 and M6, responds to stock heads or ported heads, and it even passes CA emissions with a tune.

It, however is a single pattern cam, which means it has the same duration on the exhaust side as the intake side, which is typically not good for nitrous. If you wanted a good nitrous cam, youd want something where the exhaust duration was larger than intake.

The 231/237 cam certainly is big for an A4, but with a good tune and a larger convertor, it will work fine. You might have to deal with a bit of surging, but your brother shouldn't have any problems.

Like Constrictor said the TR224 is great all around cam, but then again I'm bias ;)
However I'd say with a F/I car you'll get a better advantage out of like an Intake/Exhaust duration like a 224/228. Since he has an A4 and Nitrous the 114LSA is what you would want.

I was thinking the bigger exhaust dur. was needed for nitrous also.

futral makes some split dur. cams what do you think about some of those

224/228 586 581 on a 112 or 114

224/230 586 591 on a 112 or 114

Thunder

also has a 224/227 cam know anything about this one

would like to be able to use comp 918 and not deal with double srpings but will if we have to.

I'd say you be real happy with either of those.

If you run the 224/228 and 224/230 cams I'd highly suggest getting duals no matter what.

You should be fine with 918 on the TR224/227 mainly because of its lower lift as compared to the bigger ones mentioned above.

If you plan to run botlle then do not get a revers split cam. akd 227/224. Get a split cam like the G5 or the TR 224/227cams they will be a much better NOS cam. Plus they do good N/A most of the time.

hotcam is a good safe nitrous cam with its split.

The 224/228 cam is known to be a good choise. I dont think you can go wrong with it.

My friend got the 224/227 cam from Thunder as well I believe. Never got the car tuned or pulled on the dyno. Car sounded good tho :p

I talked to Allen at Futral yesterday about cams and he told me that if your only going to spray 100-150 shot that the split duration won't be any better than a single pattern. Just thought you guys should here what he had to say.

I agree, my best friend ran several mid 10's w/ the TR224/224 112 & a dry shot.

How tough is an A4 w/ a 114 LSA to tune? I'll be taking the car somewhere 4 hours away to get it tuned...

I would keep the Centerline on a 115- 116 to keep the cylinder pressure up if you are gonna spray it.
