finally, after having the kit for 3 months!

Friday: tear down, relocated the horn (pulled it down, realized it was on the correct side for the relocation, put it back, took it down because it needed the ATI bracket..GRRRR) pulled the fan out, and all of the induction pieces.
Spent the majority of the day working on the crank bolt..no breaker bar, electric impact, air impact (crappy one) would work. We had to pull the car down, re connect some shit and take it to a shop a mile down the road (no fans in the car at all). They put it on a lift and popped the bolt right off

THIS IS THE WORST PART.....ATI forgot to include the fucking new crank bolt/washer and the stock one cannot be used!!!!!!!!! They are Fedexing it to me, it should be here this week. finally, after having the kit for 3 months!

Saturday: installed the intercoolers....that was way more of a PITA then i thought it would be....getting the bolts in the radiator support was a whore.
also mounted the blower bracket.

Sunday: installed the injectors, new ATI fan, blower.

So next weekend will just be putting on the crank pulley/sc belt, and running the tubing (and surge stuff)

All in all, it went ok...i probably spent 7 hours on the crank bolt/intercooler bolts

glad to see it's coming together for you. dont forget to get tuning done before taking it over 3k :)

Also, just a recommendation, but that ATI fan is a piece of crap. Go spend another 150 on a spal 16" straight blade high flow fan. I think it flows 2360 cfm vs the ati 1600 something.

Are you taking it to FBC for dynotuning?

yeah, as soon as the budget permits, i'll swap out the fans...

Yeah, jeff is going to do the tuning for me...Was your car in the shop at FBC 2 weeks ago? I think I saw it there

lol, not yet!

I have a few minor details left including:
-putting in the new AC belt
-running the blow off tube to the vaccum source
-mounting my gauge sender
-running wire loom

So prolly bout an hour's worth of work..but the car is going to be fired up this weekend for sure.

I got all hung up because i didn't realize that i needed the ATI super dampener (since i got an 8 rib). So at first i called ATI and was like "um i'm missing something" and so i had to wait a week for a crank bolt/washer. Then i got the part and thought "hmm, this ain't gonna work" and did some research to learn that i had to spend another $500 and wait ANOTHER week to get the Super Dampener.

So thats the story, here are a few crappy pics i took...I'll have more pics, maybe some vid next week.

blower from top (looks real easy to change oil :o

(these were from 2 weekends ago..all the tubing is now run, and the plenum is on etc....)

I would be interested in any other comments or suggestions on the install.

sure no prob..

-make sure you have an impact for the crank bolt.
-if you are getting an 8 rib, make sure you buy the Super Dampener as well.
-when installing your super dampener, make sure to boil the hub in hot water for about 6 minutes before installation (causing it to expand, then contract when cool and on the crank snout).
-hanging the intercoolers is a PITA. You may have to cut access holes (as you can see that I did). Having a friend/wife/gf with long small hands really helps here.
-if you get a procharger, ATI's directions suck...really.
-pull the fan before working on the crank pulley, and don't put it back on until the blower is mounted.
-buy a nice 3 arm pulley puller from autozone (bout $30)
-a little WD40 on the rubber tubes makes installation easier.

thats all i can think of at the moment. Let me know if you have any other specific questions...keep in mind this is my first time really working on the engine of a car (besides doing my headers a few weeks ago).

I have a lot of pic's on the new 8 rib installation on my website in the Project car section, on a '00 SS Camaro.

Thanks, right now I am having issues with the intercooler and piping. Can't figure out an easy way to get the bolts in the radiator support. And the tubing seem to hang too low.

Yeah, getting the bolts in the radiator support is a pain. I had to cut small access holes in the support with a sawzall...Long, thin fingers are key for slipping the bolts in from the top!

The tubing hangs low in my car too, and my intercoolers are crooked. I've been told you can straighten this out by trimming the tube...but i was wary of doing that.

Whew, got them in.

My tubing was all crooked till I trimmed them. Now everything fits nice and straight and is tucked up nicely. :)

Install is done btw. :)

Do you know if it matters which way the surge valve goes? Instructions say install it with the head of the nut on the butterfly facing the J-Tube. But the pic in the instructions show the reverse.

I got the 8 rib setup too, but im still waiting on ATI to replace the broken fan. Do u have the pinning kit for the crank pulley? Do u have the part number for the three arm puller? Where did u buy it? Im only 20 miles way from germantown.

nice, i didn't pin my crank (i guess i should have, but after having to spend an extra $500 on the pulley..i couldn't swing the pinning kit at the same time!).

I don't have a part number for the 3 arm pulley, I bought mine at Autozone. I'm suire Pep Boys, Track Auto etc... carry them as well. Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

So pinning the crank is not a must??!! I really dont feel like spending the extra money to get the pining tool. I tried looking for the three arm pulley puller on autozone with no luck. I also called pep boys and track auto and they have all two arm pulley puller only. It would really help if u can find a part number or give me the phone number for the autozone u delt with. Also if u feel like helping installing another SC tell me :D I just dont feel like spending 900-1200 for a SC install.

some people have problems with the crank bolt backing out...i haven't yet..but i've only driven the car around 100 miles so far. I'm checking everything out this weekend, so i can see if it backed out any. It's definately not a "must" though.

I have to go to autozone to return a belt, and i'll see if i can get a part number for the puller when i go.

Have you ever done any engine work before? I hadn't, and did the SC install myself. It took a while, but I got it done...it's really not that hard...i wrote a bunch of tips i learned somewhere (maybe on this thread, i can't remember while i'm typing this)

I spoke to Bob at EPP and he said its better to pin the kit. They do it at most of their cars when installing the 8 rib setup. Im getting a pinning kit soon so if u need to use it just tell me :)

their fan is a piece of junk, get a spal high-flow, much more airflow, but you are warned, it's loud

I may be interested in renting the pinning kit from you for a day or 2 in the future :)

What causes the engine to stay hot longer even when you are on the freeway? Is it because part of our radiator is covered?
