I know the differences between SD and MAF, however, I don't know which would be better for my goal of 400+rwhp.

I have a 90 IROC with 305TPI, I'm going to be swapping an L98 into it. I don't know whether I should get a 88-89 MAF or 90-92 SD L98?

What's the best goal

Anyone know? I know the MAF will respond better to mods, but I don't know how good it is since I hear it's very restrictive?

:help:

settle down ;)

Overall, a MAF system is better at correcting fuel because it more accurately meters incoming air than does a MAP system. That's *if* everything is equal.

However, The MAP system in third gens is a little better overall. Not going to go into detail esp. since you're already MAP equipped.

All you have to do since you're MAP already is get a non TPI intake manifold, keep all your sensors and stuff, stuff the L98 in, and make some power. :)

400rwhp should be easy once I swap out the intake manifold, right? I'm thinking ported heads, a healthy cam, and maybe a 150 shot.

I know I'm going to have to rebuild the bottom. Maybe do forced induction down the line..

I don't see why 400 would be a problem but I would focus on aftermarket heads, not ported stock heads. It's way too easy to spend $ on porting & reconditioning stock heads when a little bit more will get you superior aftermarket ones.

Keep headers in the 1.75" primary range; there are a lot of 1.625" headers out there.

Should be a fun ride.

keep in mind either way you are going to have to get your prom burnt. Your fuel tables will have to be adjusted for every single mod you have with an SD and you are going to have dyno tune either way.

i would stay with the MAF, i've got alot to learn about L98s, but i do know that more modern cars are are much better on a MAF than a MAP, because it has a good idea of the amount of air coming in and its not making a guess based on things like engine load.
