View Full Version : Nitto DR's, when to throw away?

I have been running a set of Nitto 555R's since the middle of the summer. I have had great success with them at the track. Pretty much suck in the rain etc now, but seem to hold well when it's dry out. My question is when are they done for and no longer a valuable asset at the track? The tire's are currently using the wear bars as added traction, but still have all of the tread grooves.
Any thoughts/experience?

Ha... get ready for a bunch of replies!
I'm running mine on my garage queen and I can't even SEE a tread pattern. My Mustang friend thought the tires were done when they were past the tread and decided to hand them down to me... and when he got them taken off at the local tire joint... the manager out of the blue was like "I'm sure we can find someone to buy those off you". Mind you my friend thought they were good for the junk pile only. I've put probably ~1000-1500+ miles on em since then!
Run em to the cords man if it's a track car. If the car is your daily driver... I'd change em out more frequently of course.

when they are completely smooth and wont hook:D , there is fine line between smooth and hooking and smooth with no traction dont cross that line;)

Uh huh.....tell me about it. Even in the rain with tread, things are not always as planned. Who knew at 70mph on a damp road that I would lose traction.
