Looking to get a Vette soon and wondering how much power can the stock C5 rear handle? I would like to make around 450+ NA, then maybe spray a 100 shot, would the stock rear hold up to this? What would I need to upgrade drivetrain wise to hold this much?

Thanks,
Dave

It will handle the 450 rwhp, but adding a 100 shot to that will probably cause a problem. At the very least you'll need a heavy-duty output shaft which is the first thing to break on the C5 rear.

ok cool, I had read about that somewhere and was expecting that. What about if I switched to 3.90's. Would I still be able to hold the 450?

Sure and while I was at it, I'd go ahead and get a heavy-duty output shaft. ;)

I've seen a few C5 rears (stock but with the upgraded output shaft) handle up to 750+rwhp, but not for too many passes. ;)
It should handle 500+rwhp very nicely if driven/launched properly. :yup:

If you do the 3.90 gear, definitely do the HD output shaft while you're at it. Cheap insurance...

I think you'll have clutch problems before rear-end problems. I think the clutch will be your weakest link.

I have destroyed a couple rear ends and a 300m hardened output shaft with 480rwhp.

It seems to be a hit and miss thing. Dont be shocked if you break the rear end in a bone stock Vette.

Why not? It would be an absolute FIRST if someone did. :umm:
