View Full Version : Throwing code P0101

I fixed the intake manifold leak this past weekend, somehow crushing the MAP sensor connector while putting the car back together. I bought a new connector and hooked everything back up. Now I am throwing the Mass Air FLow System Performance code (P0101). All the connectors are attached to the MAF, and the idle is fine. I checked the MAP sensor voltage at the connector and there is 5 volts between terminal A and B. The only reason I mention the MAP senor is b/c that is the only thing that I have had to mess with.
Help

edit* forgot I haven't made the sig here yet.........the car is a 1996 Firebird Formula, only mods are TB bypass, K&N intake, shorty headers, hooker y-pipe and supercompetition cat-back exhuast, and meziere water pump. The MAF has never been ported, descreened, or messed with in general, and I wasnt showing the code before the oil leak fix.

edit 2*
Ok, so my autotap came in the mail today, and I had enough time to do a couple of logs. I have the spreedsheet and can e-mail it to someone if they can look at it.

Anyway um, I don't really know what paramters to give here, but I'll try.....

My O2's are reading really high, the timing ranged from -12 at idle to -41. The MAF reading ranged from 5.24 g/s to 209 g/s. The when I attempted to put the pedal to the floor, all i could get is 89% throttle. Then I had a miss for a little bit somewhere, but it cleared up. The car's battery power has been acting funny, trying to shut off and stuff. Thanks for any help, I'm new at this stuff.

MAP and MAF codes aren't related. Is your MAF connected? Is the car running alright? How's the idle... smooth or sort of erratic?

Possible vacuum leak...

Check ENG sensor fuse under the hood.

The MAF is connected, the idle is fine, and it's not erratic. But, if I try to give it full throttle, it's like the traction control is on, kinda like the pedal is pushing back at me. Definately not 100%. But I just assumed that was b/c the computer wasn't getting a reading from the MAF. I checked the fuses once, but I'll go check them again....:(

No the fuse is fine, could the MAF be shot?

Test the connector that goes into the MAF to see if you are getting 12v to the connector. I dont remember the exact wire color off hand, but if there isnt 12v going to any of them then thats your problem. If there is, then its your MAF.

Do you have access to a laptop that has TTS Datamaster or some other scanning software?

You should be able to pinpoint very quickly if the MAF and/or MAP sensors are giving you correct readings. Are you getting loads of timing retard which make it feel as you describe?

Maybe this feeling in the pedal is caused by the throttle cable being incorrectly connected to the throttle body.

I would really try to find someone that could scan the data stream from your PCM.

I don't have any access to any type of scanning software. I replaced the MAF and its still messed up. I am getting 12 volts from the connector so I know the MAF is getting power.

You can download TTS Datamaster for free... it used to be good for 20 scans. That should help you get to the bottom of your problem.

Just because the MAF is getting 12V doesn't mean that it's working properly :( You really really really need to look at the data stream from your PCM.

Sorry, my replys have been kinda off, I'm in and out lately. Rough weekend with the live-in GF, death in the family, midterms (at school now), and then of course the car being off. Thanks for all the help so far though guys. I had taken a quick look at the datamaster website earlier, but I thought it said for OBD1 only. Also, is the cable used for the scanning software something you have to purchase from the companies, or could I pick it up at radioshack. Once again, sorry about these noob questions, I'll look the stuff up later today when I get time. But most of the if I ask a question here, some gives a quick reply. That works out great since it doesnt take long to check replys here.

*edit Note that DataMaster is only available for the OBD1 platforms at this time.

DataMaster software is sold either bundled with the cables you need (OBD1 12-pin or OBD2 16-pin connector style)

thats what threw me off:confused:

Sorry it wasn't clear what year car you have :)

With OBDII your free possibilities are more difficult. If you have the money, which might be kind of difficult in school, AutoTap is probably the best solution.

Do you know anyone or maybe hang at some shop that could help you?

No, I don't really know anyone that could help....I guess I'll just bite the bullet and buy autotap, it'll be nice to have anyway:)

do i really need the enhanced data upgrade?

That I can't help you with... I use Datamaster for all my scanning duties.

Alright, i added in some paramaters, if someone can look at it i can send the table to them. They are in the first post....TIA
