SLP Shifter

i know this forum is supposed to be for reviews, but...


i'm looking to get a new shifter (the stock non-hurst SUCKS), and i know you're all gonna say pro 5.0, BUT, the SLP one is a lot cheaper. is a pro 5.0 worth the extra 50 bucks?

i haven't heard any comments on the slp, but i know everybody loves their 5.0

I believe the SLP shifter is the same basic design as the factory Hurst :dunno: That being said, I got a short-stick on my factory Hurst and LOVE it. I can't speak for the pro 5.0 since I've never tried it, but the shorter stick makes all the difference in the factory Hurst.

i have jarod's (spelling?) short stick on the regular stock shifter, and it sucks (for lack of a better word). would i be just as good buying somebody's factory hurst shifter?

Yeah, the sticks are the same between the factory non-Hurst and factory Hurst. It's the internals that make the difference with the Hurst. When I switched to the Hurst w/regular stick, it made a difference, but not a super-noticeable one. Once I put the short stick in, it was like night and day. Sure it transfers noise a little more, but it makes the entire feel of the car so much better.

Just for reference, I drove my old 94 Formula the other day (Dad bought it). It still has the stock shifter in it and feels way different than mine. I think if you have the AC blowing hard enough, it will blow it out of gear :D

I'd think you could pick up a used one pretty easy. Seems like someone's always trying to unload one in the classifieds. You could probably get one for $50-$60 without the knob.

I have the SLP Shifter with the LSS on the SS...Wonderful Combo, and Hella Deal. I recommend it. The Factory Hurst is no slouch, and can be picked up used for cheap also- Add the Lou's Short Stick and you've got a winning combo. :)

looks like i'll be picking up a stock hurst, i already have jarod's short stick, so it should work great. i'm so happy i'm getting rid of this piece of crap stock shifter :mad:
