Is thre any substitute for Clay bar lube?

Is there anything else I can use for clay bar lube? I wanted to claybar the cars today, but I realized that the bottle is empty :(

I use a capful of Zaino car wash in a regular spray bottle like you can find at Target or something, and then fill the rest with water.

I don't have zaino. Can I use regular car wash? Thanks.

I use Zaino car wash and water in a spray bottle also.

I would imagine you could use a regular car wash soap, just make sure it's pretty dilluted. I don't know what you use, so it's hard to say... Make sure you Dawn wash the car when you're done claying.

I use dawn when I do it, gives me just as good of results as it did when I used the Zaino.

smiley is right...any car soap will work.... some people are freaks about certain lubes and soaps but i clay bar 3 or 4 cars a day every day and i use malco cheap car wash or carbite cherry bomb... hell ive even tried glass cleaner... all works about the same. now i wouldnt use glass cleaner on my stuff and i wouldnt recommend it but i get paid to try things and see what works and it worked ok.

You guys really ought to avoid using dawn. Making a habit of using it is going to hurt your paint.

Also use distilled water if possible. It won't leave any water spots as you go around the car claying it.

I agree.. The use of dawn has been blown out of proportion on the internet.

Anyway....I first wash the car, rinse and then clay the car using a fresh bucket of soap and water. Sqeezing your wash mit as you clay. Any car wash soap works well....

depending if you use a wax or a polish on your car, I wouldn't use just any car wash and water. If you wax your car it will be fine but if you polish it then you don't want the wax from the car wash on your car. Thats the whole purpose of washing with dawn before you polish. To strip all the wax off the car.

See thats what I don't understand.

First--If you're going to polish anyway why do you care if you take the wax off ? Its going to come off anyway as you polish.

2nd---Who cares if the old wax is off first before you put another coat of somthing else on. I know Zaino says to but........they're the only one I ever heard of to do this.

we've had this discussion on here before.... not all "polishes" are abrasive so they will not remove anything.

zaino is not the only one.... hell - trpoicare is pretty popular here nowadays, they recommend the same thing.

prep work is KEY to the end results.the paint needs to be clean.
