I use Meguairs SMR #9 (Dear Lord I'm having a brain fart I can't remember the number) for minor swirls.
If that doesn't work, I have used Meguiars DACP with great results.

Or you can try the 3M Swirl mark remover. Part # 39009
Z5 always works good for me. I've got a black car as well. The more coats you get on the better it will look.

Agreed.
Try Z5 if you have minor swirls, then step up to the 3M #39009 abrasive if they are still there.

Someone a few months back made a post at LS1.com saying after all these years he finally found a product that removed all the swirl marks from his black SS. I can't remember what the product was called, but the poster gave a step by step process and according to him and his pictures it looked 100% swirl free.
I'll try and find the post...

I never tried it myself, but it looks like it's worth a shot.

Safe Cut is a mild abrasive, this is more fool-proof.
3M is a medium abrasive, you kinda have to know what you're doing to get the best results (no offense to anyone)

Definitely Safe Cut.

i'd start with the least abrasive product, if it doesn't work - step up to the next. i always recommend abrasives as a last case... you only have some much clear coat you can remove. and you must be careful when doing it.
Safe cut is also a good product, the 39009 would be a little more abrasive but also a really good product. I am about to try some new 3M of the Trizact (spelling>?) line.

I use Tropi-Care swirl cutter on my black car... one very thin and crappy wax with it, and my car looks better... when I get some time Im going to give it a real wax with the swirl cutter.

I'll put a plug in here for Menzerna Intensive Polish followed by Menzerna Final Polish. These two in combo with a dual action polisher (read - Porter Cable 7424) and the right foam pads got rid of nearly all of my swirl marks. The deeper ones are still there, but much, much less visible.
If you want to use Z5, go ahead, but it is only covering the problem. Once the Z5 wears off, the swirls will come right back. If you want to get rid of them completely, you have to abrade away the portion of the clear coat that contains the swirls and scratches.

Uhhhhhhhhhhh...in a word....no. If you want to get rid of the swirl marks, you must get all the stuff off the paint down to the clear coat (that means you'll need to clay). I use these steps when I do mine:
Warsh the car (yeah, that's right, warsh)
Clay it (I use the Mother's bar and lubricant)
Use a 50/50 water/alcohol mix (don't use your good Captain Morgan's either) to wipe it down and get the residue off
Whip out the Porter Cable 7424 with an orange power pad
Compound with Menzerna Intensive polish + PC 7424
Wipe off residue
Pull out white foam pad for PC 7424
Polish using Menzerna Final Polish with my PC 7424
Wipe off residue
Put on a couple coats of Blackfire All Finish Paint Protectant
Finish with a high quality carnuba wax
That gets my car looking right for me, but you can substitute whatever products you are comfortable using in there.
Zaino will be used as your final coat...you can put a carnuba over it for depth if you wish, but it is all a judgement call on your part.

anything abrasive is going to remove your zaino. so if you use one.... make sure to clean the area and reapply zaino afterwards.

is it safe to use the safe cut w/ a buffer? or should it be applied by hand only:confused:

Sure you can...just be careful. I have a Porter Cable 7424 (dual action polisher), and it is pretty much idiot proof. Just don't get a rotary polisher...those are the ones that require a good deal of skill and practice to use.
I was pretty skittish at first about the whole thing too, especially since I have the most unforgiving paint known to man (black). It all came out well for me though. If you use a good buffer and use it well, you will get MUCH better results than you could have ever gotten doing it by hand.
