I raced a C5 FRC yesterday and we were dead even. Is his stock or built some? I haven't run one before yesterday.

Was it a Z06 or a '99-'00 FRC? If it was not a Z06 then it might have been built a little. I wouldnt underestimate the power of a Vette. It will surprise you. :D

With your setup and how the race went, then yes, he had some work done. Like Millennium said though, it may have been a Z06 in disguise...even still, you should be able to beat that.

It wasn't a Z06. I would have felt better about it if it was. I had my wife in the car too. (not that she weighs much) I am hoping it was built. Probably not knowing my luck.

I'm sure it was built ! Vettes even loose more power to the wheels than F-body's also !
Gawd Damn Torqe tube !

I would say it had some mods done. I've ran Vette's even ZO's in my old car and I pulled em. He had to have had something done.

FRC/hardtop C5s aren't really that much faster than any other similarly stock or modded 6 speed LS1 C5 but just for reference GMHTP magazine/Evan Smith did run a 12.6 in a bone stock hardtop.

Don't forget about the 350+ pound weight advantage a C5 has over an Fbody. That more than makes up for the IRS driveline loss.

The difference isn't that much (closer to 200 pounds in most cases)...my Z28 (when stock) weighs only 110 pounds more than the average C5 coupe/'vert actually (a bit more over a hardtop and/or Z06 of course).
Right now it weighs about the same. ;)

When I got my C5 Coupe I checked the numbers against what my 99 SS weighted, and it was 350 pounds, and my SS didn't have any SLP options on it. The SS is heavier than Z28s.
Cheers.

The hood of the SS is actually lighter than the Z28s but the wheels/tires might be slightly heavier. Similarly optioned, an LS1 SS is within 25 pounds of a Z28 of the same year.
Most non convertible (they're noticeably heavier than the hardtop/t-top cars of course) F-bodies weigh betweeen 3370 and 3520 pounds without driver depending on options and fuel loads.
The only way to truly and properly compare two car's weights is to do it on the same scale, the same day/time and with the same amount of fuel/equipment on board. Track scales (any scales) can vary in accuracy and I know you're not going by magazine numbers (almost never correct).
Is that how you weighed/compared both cars?
There is no way your SS weighed 200+ pounds more than my Z28 (3380) in stock trim.

I weighed them on the same scale, at my extended family's Rock Supply Yard. My SS weighed in at 3595 pounds, without driver. This scale is calibrated two times a year and good from 2,000 pounds to just over 15,000 pounds.
I'm not going to argue this, my experience with cartek folks is that you can show them the facts, in black and white print and they still won't believe it.

Not sure why YOUR your particular SS weighed roughly 150 pounds more than most other stock ones but oh well.

Had to get that in there huh? What do CARTEK folks have to do with this?
I'm curious if I hadn't just added that under my name a few days ago what other insult you would've chosen to spew out instead?
Just the simple explaination of how you derived at the numbers would've sufficed, no real need to drag your personal agenda and bias into it.
Typical CARTEK bashing.

It's crazy. I really think stock C5's are all over the place ET wise, a lot depends on the rear gear, driver skill, and auto/manual, elevation, conditions... etc. Run-flat tires certainly don't help.
I have seen bone stock LS1's run 12.80s. I have also seen guys who couldn't break 13.5's.
What is sneaky fast are my two buddies stock motor'd ZR1s. One is a bone stock '91 385 HP car running 12.55's. The other is a '95 405 HP with just a 4.10 gear running 12.40's on GSC's. Fricking scary for bone stock motors.
Regardless, you can get a TON of power out of an LS1 rather cheaply. It's a great platform to start with, whether the motor is in a vette or not.
