I posted this in the electronics forum but there isn't much traffic there yet so maybe you guys can help me here.:help:

I'm installing an amp and a sub, leaving the factory head unit and speakers, so I need to use a line level converter. I already have a PAC SNI-35 but I need to know what the brown wires are for. It's been a while since I had this in my car.

I am going to tap into the rear speaker wires and connnect them to the black and white set of wires on it but what do I do with the brown? Are they remote wires for the amp?

Also, how should I adjust it?

Thanks:)

The ones I have seen go after the headunit and before the aftermarket amp. +/- in, 2xRCA out, one for each R and L. RCA cable out of the converters into the amp(s).

I didn't have any extra wires on mine when it was done that way before I got the Eclipse head unit... Sorry if this doesn't help...

yes, make sure you splice in BEFORE the monsoon amp... otherwise you'll be "double-amping"

Mine has 6 wires on it. 4 are the speaker level inputs and I found out the 2 brown ones are grounds and I do not need to hook those up to anything.

I didn't even think of that. Good thing you mentioned it.:)

Now, what can I use for a remote turn on for the amp?

Not even grounding them to the chassis?

I've only used amps w/ built-in line-level inputs....

Aftermarket decks have a power antenna / amp turn on lead.

There are 2 power wires to most any deck: constant 12v (for memory presets) and switched 12v (to turn the unit on)

tapping into the 2nd one is an option.

I just read somewhere to not hook tehm to anything, unless I read it wrong.

I'm a little confused trying to install half of my system with the exsisting system and not having the RCA rpe-outs from the stereo isn't helping me any.

Here is where it says I don't need to hook them up to anything. (scroll all the way to teh bottom, #16)http://home.earthlink.net/~maxfaq/eleclight.htm The wires were also taped off from when I used it before like they were not wired up to anything.

Also, a trip to teh FAQ section in teh electronics section tells me I can use the pink wire for the antenna for my remote. Can I tap into it in the rear of the car by the Monsoon amp?

If your car is pre-wired for an antenna, and that wire feeds it, that'll be perfect to switch an amp on.

Which wires do I need to tap? E4, E5, E6, E7?

Man, it would've been easier to just take all this crap out and put my whole system in.:p

you can run the remote wire to the accessory (THICK yellow.. there are two yellows) on your radio harness.. i also used this for my radar hardwire....

and yes, the grounds on the RCA are not necessary :)

 Thanks. What about verifying which wires I need to tap for the signal into the converter (refer to post above;) )

don't do it there..

pull it from the harness while you have it out.. locate the pinouts for that harness and tap into a rear speaker connection there.. then connect the line->RCA converter.. then just run your RCA cables from the front to the rear... that way if you ever decide to put an aftermarket headunit, you just swap plugs :)

That makes sense. Even thoug I don't plan on getting a new deck now (I just gave my Alpine deck and changer to my sister), it could save me time later.....but now I have to run the RCA along the other side of teh car (opposite power wire).

trust me from personal experience.. it's worth your time to do that now while you have everything apart
