View Full Version : Should I put the bottle away for a year?

That's probably the first time that question's ever been asked
I just bought a set of Texas Speed's race style LS6 heads, and a 231/237 .598"/.595" 112LSA cam. Along with all the necessary goodies to go along with it.
Now, enter my dilema...
I was ORIGINALLY going to upgrade my drivetrain before I did this, but couldn't hold myself back. The only upgraded parts in my drivetrain (a4 w/2.73 gears by the way) are the u-joints.
I've seen LS1's with the same mods as I'm doing run 474rwhp with m6's and 4.10 gears. Since I would like to enjoy the car all summer, and not just to my first drive to the dyno/tuner, should I pull out the tank to keep my drivetrain in one piece?
But oh what that dyno chart would look like with it, just once:D
I'm so torn:(
Give me some opinions guys.

Do like I do, just use it if you have to:Dwith that set up it don't look like you would have to use it very much;)

A 4l60 is not a strong trans by any means. Even without the bottle, at the power levels you are talking it's days are numbered. I would consider looking into upgrading your trans, either by beefing up the 4l60 or converting to a TH350/400 or another similar trans that is built to take a lot of abuse.

I know I should buy a solid trans, but I'm considering building it. One of my friends has been working on transmissions professionally for ~12 years or so. So if it does go, I could probably have it apart and back together in an afternoon with his help, once the parts get here that is. But that just means the next weakest link will go next...
Maybe I should just settle with the N/A power and concern myself with suspension and detailing mods for the rest of the year. Hell, I don't know.:dunno:

Not that weird... I meant as long as he does not put slicks, he should be fine for the drivetrain... even if he keeps the nitrous.
Launches on slicks is what kills rear-ends that are not beefed up.
I'd still keep the bottle, but just use it seldomly, and not out of the hole.

Eugenio, I think he was saying Werd....agreeing with you. ;)
I agree though, keep the bottle but don't spray out of the hole or through the shifts.... with that setup you won't need the bottle for too many cars anyway. :drive:

A stall converter would also help the trans last longer.

Got one, but need to change up.
I have a 3200 TCI streetfighter.
I've been considering a Yank SS3800E, or a TCI 3800.
But I've gotta figure out what stall/STR works best since I only want to gear as high as 3.42
