Like when the C6 comes out.

I think the big drop has already happened over the last six months and you won't see another big drop but a slow steady depreciation over the next few years. I've been tracking the used C5 prices for a few years now and this is the trend I've noticed, at least up here in our Auto Trader.

I checked out the US Auto Trader site yesterday and saw tons of nice C5s for as low as $15k! I even saw a super rare Navy Blue 98 (only 14 were painted that color in 98!) for around $18k!

I would think the prices will drop around 1-2K before the end of the year, but I doubt more than that untill the second year of the C6 comes out.

They have come down a lot, I just looked at a black '01 automatic with 62k miles on it, original owner in decent shape, asking $21,995.00...thinkin' about it. :hmm:

Go for it! I'm just shocked more of you guys don't buy C5s right now, the prices over the last year have been awesome.

I just bought one this week end, a C5 for an excellent price. Most of the dealers are keeping the prices high thinking spring will keep the valve up.

What year and color did you buy? M6 or A4? What did you pay?

I considered buying a used C5 as well, but for GM supplier discount pricing that I can get it at + $2000 rebate, I'm leaning towards an 04 Commerative Coupe MN6 with Z51 handling package which will be ~$42,000 out the door - minus my trade in or down payment for the price of my TA when I decide to sell it.

With the exception of the 2004 commemorative edition Vettes, and some other in-demand colors/combos, you can walk away with a steal right now. I've recently heard of $4000 under list. Most dealers have a stock-pile of C5's and they want to MOVE them.
Earlier C5's (1997, 1998) with moderate miles are now going in the high-teens! A great starter Vette for someone.
For example....

I understand this C5 went for $18k and change.

Why would the Commemorate editions sell for so much? They aren't exactly rare. In Toronto, one dealer is selling 2004 C5s for $8000 off MSRP! ($62,000 CDN vs $70,000 MSRP)

Hmmm. I wouldn't know either. I found that a mag red II coupe with 12 disc changer would actually be more than the the commerative one I was looking for?

First, the MSRP is higher.
There are three commemorative edition models.
Coupe (Z15)
Z06 (Z16)
European Coupe (Z18).
Coupe and Z06 are for the states, the Z18 RPO is for Europe (only about 140 made).
For the Z06 and Z18, this is the first time that carbon fiber has been used as original equipment for a painted exterior panel by any major North American manufacturer.
First and only Z06 model with polished Z06 wheels. And, of course, the distinctive Lemans-style graphics that match the C5R and fancy seats.
The Z18 coupe is the first couple that has Z06 brake calipers. Also gas Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car tires and an upgraded suspension (modified FE4 susp.) A rather odd car.
Also, it's the last year of the C5. So, regardless if this car suits your taste, it's just going to be worth more with all of the above. In 10 years these cars will be as hot as Grand Sports.

I thought you meant they weren't discounting the Commemorative cars, I do realize their MSRP is going to be higher though. But they should still be discounted by the same amount, so that if you get $4k off the price of a regular C5, you should also get $4k off the price of these.

Right, the MSRP is higher but no one that I've seen is selling them for less than MSRP.
But, I've seen people pay 5k over recently for the comm edition.
They are just rare.
Here's a pricey one....

You can get a similar option pure Z06 for 10k less.

That's odd, because up here they are very common. One dealer has 3 comm. coupes (out of 5 coupes in stock), 2 convertibles (out of 4 verts in stock), and 2 comm Z06s (no other colors) And if you do a dealer search online for all 2004 coupes within my area code, 6 out of the 20 cars found are comm editions. So basically what I'm saying is that this "special edition" is not rare at all up here. So if a dealer tries to mark it up, they won't get very far, since so many of them are out there. It seems just like the 50th anniversary edition to me, and so many of those were made that they are hardly rare (11,632 were made last year, a whopping 33% of total production, the most produced color by a longshot, black was second but at only 16% of total production!)
