Who uses Mobil 1 and what filter do you use?I tried to find a Fram filter that would fit but couldnt,I ended up going with the AC GM one. What about the Mobil 1 also is it better than the AC one. Also every time I change my oil in the spring I make sure its tight but somehow it ends up leaking.I put oil on the gasket too.I never had this problem with my 70 T/A.Is it because the Mobil 1 is thinner so I have to double check the fit more often?

Don't use FRAM oil filters. They are very poorly designed.

The A/C Delco one is good, Mobil1 also makes a filter (don't have P/N# handy but you should be able to look it up at the parts store).

I have a Mobil1 filter on my car right now. Running 3qts 10-30 and 3 qts 15-50.

Edit : I've never had an oil filter leak - make sure it's hand tight and that should do it. No need to re-check, unless like you said it's leaking... I've never seen one leak from the gasket unless it wasn't on tight enough...

I use M1 5w30.
I use a stock type short filter at the moment, but will soon be using the K&N gold one from now on.
I have never had a leaking issue, check to see if when you pulled you old filter off ( could have been last change or a change before) that the rubber seal did not stay stuck to your motor.

I have seen this happen to people in the past and it Will leak till you remove the one stuck to the block.

Are you running 5W-30 or 10W-30? You might want to try the thicker oil to see if that stops the leaks.

As far as oil filters I always use the AC Delco filter.

Mobil 1 synthetic and the K&N oil filter. That nut on the end makes all the difference in taking off the old filter!

i am running mobil 1 10w-30 with either a ac delco or wix filter whatever is easiest to get my hands on! I have ran fram before and had no problems, but with the bad reviews they always receive on the boards i stopped using them:cool:

I used Mobil 1 for awhile and I get better oil pressure with Redline Oil. The Mobil 1 filter are restrictive and the K&N also has better oil pressure as well.

Another vote for the K&N oil filter. I also use Royal Purple 10W30.

Car has never had anyone but me or the original owner put in anything but Mobile 1 full synthetic at about every 4k or 5k. I use 5w30 in winter and 10w30 in summer with the long ac delco filter. Always have had consitant oil pressure at 40 or so. From all that patman says and the oil analysis that i have seen i would use nothing else. I belive the filter # is PF59? Correct me if im wrong on the filter #.

The one thing I don't like about Mobil 1 is that it's on the thin end of the 30wt range. The LS1 likes an oil at the top end of the 30wt range, and oil analysis results show that bearing wear ends up being lower.

This is why the top oils I recommend are German Castrol 0w30, Redline 5w30, Amsoil 5w30 or 0w30. I definitely prefer the K&N oil filter, it flows like crazy.

In my car, I'm using the German Castrol 0w30 along with the long K&N oil filter (in my LT1 that is the HP3002)

I knew it wouldn't be long before I was responding to the first oil thread on here. :bump:

Mobil 1 5w-30 with a Wix oil filter, I will start using 10w-30 mobil the next oil change

Mobil 1 0w-40 as it is on the lower side of the 40w and thins out to a high 30w anyway. The 0w allows the oil to flow at startup to minimize cold start wear...perfect compromise in my book.

K&N filter(2006)

Still can't find the German Castrol though:(

If you can find the German Castrol in your area (it's sold only at Autozone in the US so far), it's a much better oil than anything Mobil 1 makes, including their 0w40. In my oil analysis on my car, German Castrol 0w30 started out and finished up at the exact same viscosity, and my wear numbers were the lowest I've ever seen on an LT1. Lead wear (bearings) in particular was extremely low, showing that the viscosity was perfect.

Definitely a full synthetic, in fact this oil is used in Europe for very long drain intervals (20,000 miles) as it's got the BMW long life approval, amongst many other European specs (Porsche approved, Mercedes Benz approved, ACEA A3)

I do the same here. I might go with the longer M-206 filter though.

Up untill my last oil change, I had been running 0W30 M1. I had no oil consumption problems at all, generally less than a qrt. in 7K miles. My last oil change I went with 0W40 M1.

When I changed out the cam a couple of weeks ago, I was able to check out the cleaning ability of M1. The interior of the engine had hardy no deposits at all. Actually,,,, no deposits,,,, not even any staining.

The guy that did the swap commented on the cleanliness of the engine and how good-a-shape the timming chain was in considering the 40K of hard miles I put the engine through. Said the chain really didn't need replaceing at all. This comeing from a guy that has done alot of cam swaps in LS1s.

After seeing alot of good reports of the 0W30 Castrol, I think I'll give it a try next time.

BTW, I had been used AC filters up till two oil changes ago. I changed to K&N.

Just because Mobil 1 is factory fill in many cars doesn't mean it's the best oil there is. Mobil is a huge company, with deep pockets, and so they are able to secure big contracts like this very easily for many reasons. Number one, this oil is available worldwide, number two, it's advertised so much that people truly believe it's the best. It is a very good oil, don't get me wrong, it's just not the best choice. Oil analysis has shown this to be true.

I have m1 5w-30 and the m1-206 filter that I just did last weekend. However I noticed that I can get the german syntec the other day so I will for sure try that next time, and I'll prolly switch to the k&n filter as well.

We use an oil called Cen Pe Co. (Central Petroleum Company) . Its the only oil we've ever put in all of our vehicles. Works like a champ. Tested all the others and haven't found anything better.

I ran 10w30 Royal Purple in my car last and it stained my whole freaking heads, valve covers, valley cover, and intake ports. I used to run RedLine 10w30 and I NEVER had a problem, in fact the engine always looked spotless on the inside. So need less to say I've switched back RedLine Oil this time 5w30 but before that I put some Mobil1 10w30 with a 1/2 qt of Marvel Mystery Oil to clean her up for a few hundred miles.. Runs good now with excellent pressure too again.

:2guns: Royal Purple!!:gun2:
