View Full Version : How does Jet Hot expect a U clamp to hold the pipes over the Cat / Test Pipe?

Pictures could really be worth a thousand words in this post. Hopefully I'm making sense. I'll post pics when I get round to it. For those that have already installed the Jet Hot Y, I think it'll be pretty easy to understand.

My kit came with 4 U clamps and 2 Band clamps. The band clamps are NOT the same diameter throughout either. They go from a big end to a smaller end (pretty much assumed eh? ha).

I am assuming the big end goes on the collector side. With that said.. how do they expect a U clamp to hold the cat? At the cat section, both pipes on either side are the same diameter (neither have slits either) and they incase the cat/test pipe???

Anyway, I'm 95% sure I'll have my cat section fixed by going out and buying a 3inch diameter band clamp :D

Last night I tried using the supplied different diameter band clamp on that area and it blew off when I romped on the car :boggled:

definately get some band clamps, the u-clamps are gonna allow a pretty good exhaust leak but it would help once you get those pics up;)

The bigger to smaller band clamps go on the collector of the header. With the bigger end around the ypipe and the smaller end on the header collector. Remember the ypipe slides over the collector.

Also the there should be band clamps where the cats go as well as the little piece of the ypipe that connects together underneath the driver's side.

I used 1 U clamp and put it where the Ypipe connects to the Ipipe.

If my pic hosting site was working I would show you what they look like.

i also have the y pipe and i am going to weld it up and forget about it as sone as i put my exhaust on because they will do nothing but leak.

You should have a total of 6 clamps. Preferably all of them be 3"x3" band clamps. 2 of those should be the small to expanded type of clamp for the collectors of the headers. I have had them on for quite awhile and have zero leaks.

Those U-clamps were a joke. I had them on my car for a few days until I recieved my band clamps. I had so many exhaust leaks.....

I have leaks with that system around the cats, too.

I'm just going to weld it all up now that the whole exhaust's finished.
