1) Can I install a LS1 motor in the RS,
2) if i install it, will it be street legal?
3) the current camaro, is automatic, would it be hard to convert it to manual?

i know the standerd reply is just buy a SS

well, i can get the parts for about 5000.00
i dont plan on trying to sell this car. i want to restore it, and us it for Racing on tracks.

i also want to be able to drive it to and from work also...

any info will be of alot of help.

one more thing.

if i keep the RS auto motor.

how can i give it more power?

it is a V6
also, how can i remove the limiter. on it?

when it hits 118mph, it kills on me.
i want to remove this limit.
because at this point when i hit 118mph, im at 3xrpms and it feels like there is more power that can be had.

thanks.

this is my new project car.

I know the standard reply is to buy an SS ;)

But the best way to get everything you need to do this swap is to buy a wrecked LS1 f-body w/ everything you need. It'll be cheaper and easier. All the "little parts" will kill ya on cost.

Really, everything to do an LS1 swap into a 93 is bolt-in so that's the way to fly.

I like Sams 98 Turbo 3800 Camaro (http://www.ls2.com/forums/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=386).

I have the LS 1 and computer for it.

all the parts needed to install it including the speedomitor totaled me just under 5000.00

the LS1 motor i got for 1500.00 has 75,000 miles on it.
:)

but i will do what you state also.

:) i might be able to get it for an additional 2500.00 or less. :)

7500 for a wrecked 75k mile F-body is high. IMO.

LS1 into a '93? That's going to be quite a bit of work. Have you decided against swapping an LT1?

If you go to www.tacreationsusa.com you will find a lot of information on what you would need.

Complete engine assembly
Every component is different. Nothing interchanges with the motors.

Transmission
The Bolt pattern is completely different from V6 to V8
Engine Cradle (K-member)
An LS1 engine cradle is formed different to sit lower. The use of the LS1 mounts is also required.

Radiator
3.4 & 3.8 V6 radiator, no steam line LS1 radiator, 1 additional line for steam line. The LS1 radiator uses an additional steam line on the RH tank. Early LS1's also use a low coolant sensor.

Fuel Pump Assembly
Although the V6's and V8's operate at the same PSI, the V8's use a higher volume. 99-02 LS1's have the fuel regulator built into the tank.

Gauge Cluster
The speed reading is different, and the tach reading is different. Not changing the clusters will cause the tach reading to be erratic. Oil PSI and water temperature readings are also different.

Harnesses
The engine harness & PCM are all required changes.

Hoses
The LS1's coolant hoses are in different locations. The A/C hose is also different.

Throttle System
The throttle cables need to be changes since the LS1 cable is mounted on the RH side. 99-02 3.8 equipped cars will require the addition of a mechanical accelerator pedal since they are electronic on the 3.8

Suspension
LS1 coil springs are required from the added weight. Your vehicle will sit low if you do not change the springs, but also have poor handling since springs are rated for a certain weight. The steering rack is also different to clear the oil pan & alternator.

That's just for the main stuff. If you were swapping an LS1 into a same year V6, you could get away with a lot of rewiring.

F (Cooling Fans) - LS1's use dual cooling fans.
bullet

A (Airbag Sensors) - 93-95 models use a 3 sensor system, 96-02 use a single sensor system. The connectors are physically different as well on 99-02 models.
bullet

D (Dash Assembly) - 97-02 uses a totally different dash VS the 93-96 Camaros. Firebird remains interchangeable.
bullet

W (Wiring) - All the wiring (Relay harness, dash harness, etc).
bullet

B (Brakes) - The LS1's use a different braking system for the increase power. The braking system includes the spindles, calipers, ABS unit and controller.

Also, for $5,000 what did that cover for your parts?

I did some research for swapping a '98 LS1 into my '98 V6

98 LS1 and A4 complete $2500 80k miles
Base LS1 K-Member $75
Radiator $125
Fuel pump assembly and fuel lines $100
V8 spring and struts $40
Hoses, from AutoZone around $60

Total: 2900

What else did you think you would need for your '93?

ok, this is a great start.

i need to look in to the motor specs.

you might be right aboutit being an LT1 not LS1

however, i was told that i would need to also replace the posix back end.

for the car. i was told that this engine would fit in to my car frame. because the bolt sequence was the same.

my 93 RS 3.4 liter engine. fits. the car frame looks exatly like a Z28

i am thinking this might be a LT1 motor if that is what is usually in a Z

i have not started this project yet.

right now, im just collecting the parts for the engine. :)

i might by me a wrecked Z28 use the parts, then chop the rest.

i am also in need of a programmer for this current car. there is a programmer socket in the car, on the drivers side.

but i cant seem to find any programmers for this make.

i want to check some thing out on it.
