I have a red Camaro Z28 with an SS hood. I was thinking of putting a Manta hood scoop decal on it in black. Does anyone have any pics of this or other suggestions?

Gorgeous car!
I know that these combos look good:
black scoop/ white, silver, pewter, SOM car
silver scoop/ NBM, black car
How do you think a black one would look on a red car? I've seen silver on red and it looks bad.
Here's mine: http://www.ls1camaro.net/freehosting/SideZ1.jpg

Someone also makes a stencil you can apply to paint the Manta stripe on there.
Not sure who it is right off, but if yer interested, start searchin', ...
Someone just posted info on it the other day on one of the other boards, the 'Tech' board I thought, ...
Gunmetal Gray is really starting to become a popular highlight color also, maybe that would look good on the red, ...
Black or gunmetel, as mentioned, would both look really good on there.

Currently a sponsor on the "other" board, but hopefully that'll change soon

Ok guys thanks a lot for all of the help!
Stoleit, thanks for the chop! I think it looks pretty good on there, what about the rest of you? Kinda sets it off from the tons of red Camaros out there.
PontiacFan and Shamrock, I had also considered the gunmetal grey color. It has become more popular and I like it, so we'll see.
As far as paint goes, I'd probably have the whole hood re-painted red before I did the scoop with a decal or paint. I bought it off a totalled 98 SS from a guy who lives in a rural area. There are paint chips all over the hood from gravel and the clearcoat is chipped off the scoop in a sizable section. So if I like the black/gunmetal scoop enough, I could just have it painted on all at the same time. :)
RedRider, check my local club's board here: http://www.fastlouis.com. Go to Member's Rides and there is a red SS on there with a silver scoop. You may like it, but I just don't think the silver goes good on the red. The silver scoop needs a darker color car like NBM or Black. Your choice though! ;)

That's your car right? We all know it's focking beautiful! I had thought about just having it painted on black or gunmetal when I get the hood re-painted, but I'm still not even sure if I'd like the scoop a different color. If I had a black, NBM, silver, or pewter car, I wouldn't hesistate a bit to do it. But my car is red and I don't know if I like it on red ones just yet. We'll have to see.
I need to find some actual pics of a black scoop on a red SS.

I had a decal kit but after 2 hood scoop decals they came out the same crappy so I had my hood scoop painted glossy black :)
Looks 100000% much better

Thanks! :) To be honest, I wasn't sure how much I'd like it either. I'd talked about doing it for a LONG time when I was working for Sherwin Williams Automotive Finishes, but never acted on it. Then some arseclown turned left in front of me and rearranged my front end, so I decided, "What the hell?" and had the body shop paint the scoop black on the new hood. Now I think it's one of the best things I've done to my car thus far. :)
Personally, I LIKE the red/silver combo, but I KNOW red/black would be awesome, as black goes with any color! I think you should just put the black on there and call it a day. :D

Thanks for all of the information. I think I like the idea of doing it, it's just whether or not I want to try out a decal or go straight to the paint. I think I could get a decal and if I like it I'll have it painted later. Because if I go straight for the paint, then it won't come off if I decide I don't like it. As for the red/black or red/silver, I think I definitely want to go with black. The darker scoops like black always go good on lighter colored cars like silver, white, and pewter. The lighter scoops like silver always go good on darker cars like NBM, and black. Red is a color that is kind of in the middle: it is dark, but it isn't like a black or NBM. I've seen pics of silver scoops on red ones and they just look very out of place because the car's color isn't dark enough for it.
Another thing I'm trying to decide on: whether or not to do just the outside of the scoop, or also the little inside edges? I like it both ways, just not sure which would look better.
01pewterZ28, thanks for the closeup pics! That looks gorgeous! I like how the paint shines on a car more than a vinyl decal would. It looks sharp!

Got for it!
Mine is painted on. I bought the decals. They are very difficult. Two professionals tried, both got jacked up. :(
But the paint is awesome!

What did you do since both of your scoops got screwed up? Just ate the $100 loss?

In the end I decided not to try the decal again. Jay offered to sell me another at a reduced price, but after losing 2 I decided I liked it and I wanted it painted. Also when it came to the rear painted looks MUCH better. :)
