I am having a cam installed in my car right now.......I work a ton and dropped off the parts and car without even thinking about it as I have been sitting on the parts for seven months and forgot that I needed to order a few more lifters as I had 11 new ones............

Well the mechanic calls me and asks me what he was supposed to do with 11 lifters...........I was like OH S:mad: hit.....Anyways he used eleven new and reused some of the old lifters......

My questions are:

Am I going to blow one of these old 120k mile lifters now that I am running a more aggressive cam and springs???

What would you guys do????

Its been done now..but I am hella paranoid...........

you should have waited untill you got all of them, you went through all that work what would have been another couple of days to wait

Agreed... why jeopardize your investment by knowingly putting old parts back in. You could be very lucky and have no issues or maybe not.

Yeah ...its not that I was unwilling to wait...the problem is that it is a small shop with one guy thats extremely swamped...its taken about a month to get my car in to him........... Because he is so busy he said he didnt have time to let it sit in his shop.........

I would have waited but Im just wondering if anyone has reused a high milage lifter and if so will the increased cam specs and stiffer springs do me in?????

Should the used ones have been put in on the intake side since there is less lift????? (dont know internals real well)

Shawn,

Lifters with 120K miles would show a considerable amount of wear. This might not make a big difference on a 'normally' driven vehicle but on one that has and will see more high end type driving it might.

I understand your dilema but I don't think there's any real good answer to your question. Being an engineer I would go back and put in new lifters and be done with it. It would be real stupid to loose your motor if a lifter goes bad :(

Thierry

dude just pull your intake off yourself (easy stuff) and install your own remaining lifters, your old lifters are probably fine in that they are hyd-rollers but like everyone pretty much stated don't risk your investment. Get someone experienced to help you and do it yourself, save some $$.

I just may try to do that down the line........I use to work on my Nova's all the time but the camaro turned me off to doing my own work....I dont even do my own plugs......

I think the most I have done was install my LCA's, removed the throttle body to clean it up and bypass, and a CAI.....not really even automotive work

I would change them out myself, I did my cam swap at 80K and replaced everything I could think of, no reason not to while it is all open....Changing a few lifters would take only a few hours.
