the damn aluminum cover will not seal at all.
I chose not to use the gasket that came with it and used RTV and both times I got a leak..
Would you guys suggest using the gasket?
any suggestions or tricks to get the damn thing to seal?

Maybe you could try using both the gasket and the RTV? I only used RTV and I have a small leak but I don't really care for now. I don't have a moser but is it possible you have a dent or the cover is warped slightly? Just throwing out ideas.

Ok, not the same rear but I also chased a leak down on my strange 12 bolt. We thought it was the cover seal. I changed that bastard 3 times and still a leak. We used RTV, a gasket, then back to RTV still leaked. CRAP! So, we cleaned everything up by spraying it down with brake cleaner and THEN put UV dye in the rear. Ran it and damn, it wasn't the cover! I don't know about the Moser but the Strange has 4 plugs that are pressed in to the axle. The plugs are on the flat surface just inside of the pumpkin's edge toward the axle. There are two on the bottom and two on the top. One of the bottom plugs was seeping. My plan now is to wait for the fluid to get low and then I'll go to a welder and have the plug welded shut. That'll probly toast my fluid but I'll replace that when I get the welding done. Try the dye and UV light. You might be chasing the wrong suspect! :D

PS: I have an aluminum cover too! That's why I chased that sucker down!

well I dunno if it is the cover or nt now...the other post right now about the breather tube has me wondering...my breather tube fell off and it pissed fluid everywhere...so I attached a new one and then I'll clean it up and see where I am at...
if its the cover again I think I may just pull it off and use it as a freeway frisbie:D

Again, I would have bet my first born on the cover being the source of my leak. Check the source of the leak with the UV light & dye or you may be wasting your time and money chasing the wrong thing.
That's my $.02
