First off, I didnt post in the L98 forum, because there were like no posts since the 10th. Sorry.

Ok heres the deal:

I have a 91 3.1L A4 Firebird, and want to swap in an L98 A4.

So, I want to see if I have everything listed correctly, and I have a few questions. Heres what I got so far:

L98/TH 700R4- $1400
L98 Motor/Tranny Mounts- $70
L98 Radiator/Hoses- $140
L98 Gauge Cluster- $???
V8 Springs- $??? (Will get later on)
L98 Fuel Pump/Lines/Filter/Strainer- $100

Questions:

1) Is a new fuel pump/lines/etc. really necessary?
2) With the gauge cluster, do I need to get one from any V8 Firebird within the right years, or does it have to be from an L98 Firebird?
3) Do I need a new ignition system? If so, can anyone reccomend one?

Is that just about everything?

Thanks

I saw a 91 TA for $2000 and it had a 5.7L in it already. They are cheap cars. Why bother going through all the issues of swaping out the engine?
As far as I remember, the lines were very similar between V8 and V6; just verify they're the same size and you'll need maybe longer lines from the fuel lines to the fuel rail is all. To answer your question: any V8 Firebird. You just need an 86-92 V8 tach as I'm pretty sure the gauges stayed the same "style" those years. They made 6k and 8k V8 tachs.
The ECM in 90-92 V8 models has the knock module built into the PROM within the ECM. You need an L98 PROM to be correct. I burn my own but I still need the basic L98 or LB9 PROM for the knock / ignition stuff. Yes, the LB9 and L98 knock stuff is different.
Thanks for the response jmd! One question, about the ignition. I am talking about the parts like the "ignition box" or whatever, will I need this?

No, you don't need that. Right now, your best bet is to acquire a 90-92 Firebird or Camaro factory (Helms) service manual. Not Haynes, not Chilton. The real deal. You won't have much to change as the plugs at the drivers side and under the dash should be very very similar between the V6 and the TPI V8 models.
