Guys are there any dyno difference between the Z28 and SS?

Not really, no. If there is any difference, its coming from the exhaust which might add a few extra ponies.

nope, pretty much the same. The difference is minimal..

no, and a stripper Z might be a little faster because it is lighter.

But what about a stripper SS? ;)

Yes. It is due to the exhaust and possible Y2Y content.

Engine is identical, but a Y2Y car can have a "dual-dual" catback and an airlid (2002) from the factory. Expect about 10-15rwhp over the same year Z-28

not unless you get a factory freak

Oops, I almost forgot about the SLP options. FYI, but put same parts on a Z and you get similar results. :)

Correct. Just add a catback and an airlid, and you are the same as a Y2Y SS.

The z will still be lighter so the z will still be faster.

That doesnt have anything to do w/ factory dyno #'s.... You have to factor in the mods on car and most importantly the driver... I've raced a couple WS6's and SS's and kicked they're ass but I've also been pulled so that doesnt answer anything....

You "smoke" more than that in order to make such a silly statment.

hence why I put the "winking" smilie at the end of my sentence.

I know that a Z28 and a SS have the same engine.

well if you got the 1le package its night and day. besides that i think the shocks, but not too much. you would probably want to replace everything anyway if you get serious about modding.

Found out the maf was hurting him so it is possible that he may have had a few more out of it. Those are stout numbers. His was through an auto as well which was even more impressive.

I have a question arent z28 engines the same as ss engines? Only diffrence is ss body kit? My friend said SS are faster than z28 and run harder. Is this true?

01SS346
05-19-2004, 05:07 PM
It can be Z28's are lighter, SS look better SS have more HP rating its a toss up between the 2 most of the time

SS's have the ram air hood, and better exhaust, sometimes better suspension depending on options

The SS is an appearance package. There are some who will maitain that an SS is faster but its not. The powertrains are identical in SS and Z28 models year for year.

The SS hood is lighter than a Z hood > different material.

I put down 310/314 stock.

I picked up serious area under the curve with my mods and a couple max ponies/tq - 314/318 w/exhaust, K&N FIPK, & MAF (untuned).

MAF is pig rich so I'm running w/ exhaust, K&N FIPK, and TB only until I get some $$$ for a tune.

My SS put down 311/332 bone stock(I think 2001's were rated at 335).
My buddy's SS put down 310/331, his is a 2001 also.

The problem with dyno # as stated a million other times is they can be manipulated by the shop and the weather conditions will also effect the #'s.

Even with track numbers, different conditions and the driver can all lead to different track #'s which can make comparing them difficult.

If you are happy with the way your car performs don't worry about anyone elses track or dyno #'s.

Wasnt there a half inch difference in exhaust pipes in the Z28's vs the SS's?

It depends on which hp package you have on the SS as to what it dyno's. I've seen some guys that have the 345hp package put down 345rwhp.. Some less, but it just depends on alot of thing.
