I had heard that Wal-Mart had Micro-Fiber towels in their detailing products. With all the buzz about Micro-Fiber, I decided to take a look at these towels tonight at our local Wally World.

The towels feel reasonably soft. I know they wouldn't be as good as say soemthing from DF Towel. However, I saw on Autopia that a few folks were pleasantly surprised with their quality, while others said they sucked.

Anybody used them?? I really want to get some Microfiber towels. I might give them a shot, then step up to something better later. They would certainly be better than the 100% cotton towels I got from Meguiars.

How do you think they would do as far as polishing billet wheels??

Well, I don't think I would try them on my car, especially after how much time I've spent getting scratches out from some lesser quality cotton towels, but if you have time, you could always give it a shot. Try it on a small section, and after you are done, take it out in the sun. If you are seeing some extra scratches, don't use them. That's all I can think to do :dunno:

I would not use them on the paint of the car, the weave of a micro fiber towel determines quality, I have some of the exact towels you talk about that came from WalMart, I use them on glass and when I polish my wheels (billet and chrome, two sets), they seem to do fine on the wheels as I do not want to use my best towels (DF) on the wheels anyway with the brake dust and metal polish residue....

Only DF for me on the paint....

Someone once told me that a good test to see if a towel is good is to test it on a back of a cd and see if it scratches the cd. Supposedly the cd material is really soft so any damage caused by the towel will show up easy.

Personally I would save those towels to do the interior only since cotton towels leave some lint on the inside.

I'll probably just get some good towels and skip the WM towels.

If I do get some of them, I'll use them on my work vehicle.

I use them for dusting the dash, console, radio area. I found mine at a local parts store, but would've gotten a better deal at Wally World.

100% cotton MADE IN THE USA will not scratch paint unless there's debris on the surface when you use the towel.. you really want to make sure it's MADE IN THE USA because the united states has stricter laws about "if it says 100% cotton then it is 100% cotton"... some of these other countries are not this way...it MAY say 100% cotton but it probably has some synthetic materials blended in which WILL scratch your paint.

even that is not always true. back when we used to buy cannon and fieldcrest towels - there were cheap knockoffs sold. you still had to be careful. the best test for cotton towels is the flame test.
