How do you kow if an SS is a fake? A guy I met tonight bought what he thought is an SS, but to me it looks like an imposter. He feels the same, but doesn't know for sure. The wheels are the gray 10 spokes, but have blank center caps. They look like the aftermarket wheels, but I don't know for sure. The SS emblems are solid black with a thin gray outline and look smaller trhan the real ones. The hood is fiberglass and I can't remember if the SS hoods are steel or not. It's a 2000 nad doesn't have the plaque on the console.
Is there any way to tell for sure? What's the 3 digit code for an SS on the door seal sticker?

Gracias!!!
I had read that before, but it was useless info for me at the time. I couldn't think of that to save my ass when he asked, but I knew that there was a code for it.

When did SLP stop making them? 98? adn who took over? ASC (I think that was their name- the company that did the WS6 nad the GNX)?

When did they stop with the plaques on the console? Do those emblems sound legit or are they fakes?

Sounds legit to me. I had an SS with no SLP options. Just the hood, spoiler and wheels. The centercaps are blank because the red bowtie wears off after a few washes.

As far as I know, every SS has a plaque on the consol:shrug:

Mine didn't. Had the standard Camaro plaque.

I did not think an SS has a fiberglass hood.

According to SLP, they remove the factory hood and install the fiberglass hood.

Ahh thanks. The reason I asked is because, when my car was rebuilt after the track accident, my friend that rebuilt the car scored an SS hood for me which was fiberglass. We were both not sure if it was real one or an aftermarket one. He was sure that the real ones were steel. So there is a small chance that my hood may actayll be a real SS hood.

I have a 2000 with no SLP options and have just a regular Camaro dash plaque and mine is legit

He could also call for his car's build number, call SLP 800-533-5673 ext. 167 and speak to Matt.

The SLP cars should have option stickers on the passenger door jam, mine does. Did the '98's and up have these?

Only if they have SLP optional content.

People have told me that my car is an SS, which it is not. I simply liked the hood and put one on my Z28. I will continue to maintain that it is a Z because I don't like people faking the SS's.

I even told one guy, "Look at the door jam there. Do you see an SLP sticker or a factory WU8 code? Nope, that 's because it is a Z28!"

Thats wierd...mine has the sticker everyone refers to, but its blank......I called SLP and according to them this car should have come with the CME (true) SLP SS grille (true) Bilstein suspension (sure damn feels like it) then the dash plaque/floor mats etc....has all those too :dunno:

I think you got it backwards. The driver side has GM RPO codes and the passenger side door has SLP sticker.:)

As for blank SLP sticker, I'm not sure other than possibly ink being faded away.

So do they come from GM with the raim air hood or no? I thought a stock SS didnt even go to SLP, it just came from the plant and then to the dealer where ever it was ordered thru?

Nah, all the SS' get shipped to SLP first and SLP adds hood, spoiler, suspension upgrades, and options ordered (if ordered).

i thought after 98 GM installed the hoods, spoliers and rims and any SLP content was put on by SLP?

Not according to SLP. When I talked to Dennis (I think that was him) at SLP when I was ordersing some parts and getting my build number, he stated that SLP installs the hood, spoiler...etc and that all SS' go through the SLP. That is how they are able to keep track of build numbers of all SS'.
