View Full Version : how do you judge at a show & shine
when at a participant judges show & shine what do you judge on? Cleanliness? Mods? Both? Me personally I always try to pick a car that was done by the owner them selves and is a car that is driven. I also try to pick a car that has been modded rather than just a clean but completely stock car.

cleanliness
over quality and presentation of car (the car should speak for itself without little models and such)
Mods should be taken into display just as In car entertainment should
and how the car is driven daily driver etc.

While I've never judged, I can tell you cleanliness and presentation of car are the biggest things.. Two shows I've been in, which I won :D, I competed against countless people with more MODs then me, but I beat them cause how my car appeared... :yup:
exactly, well, thats hoe judged shows work. Judges judge SOLEY on cleanliness and presentation. at a judged show a totally stock pristine car with 50 miles on it that is obviously never driven will win at a show time and time again over a totally modded out car that is showing some wear from being driven. Im saying, when its a show and shine and you judge how do you do it?

look for excess wax/polish, dirt in obvious and not so obvious spots, how much effort did it take to make the car clean?
is the car damaged, paint pealing, how clean is the glass (look in the hard to reach corners)
how old is the car should also be taken into some consideration.
does the car look as good from a far as it does from real up close and in person
is there unremoved wax and polish on the plastic trim, or buit up around the trim
swirls?
Cleanliness and attention to detail. Finding and doing things that may be barely noticeable always impressed me. One of my friends had a lot of carbon iber on his car, so on his license plate, the letters were covered in carbon fiber. On'y one person who looked ath the car every noticed it without him pointing it out, but it made a lasting impression since I had never seen anyone do that before.

I know what you mean and I agree. I always try to make sure my car is the cleanest one in the class.
Around here we have different classes for stock and modified so that is not a problem, Super Chevy is the same way, they have stock, street, and modified. Super Chevy judges on clean of course but also presentation of the mods if you have any, they also look closely for door dings, scratches, chips, stance of the car if modded, etc.......

Yea, but at the TA Nationals they hit me for a MOD on each overlay I have. So that is 4 (doors count as 1) MODs right there. So either I put those overlays on or add a twin turbo setup, full exhaust, etc. and compete in the same class as a guy with 4-8 changes, or whatever it was, that has a 10 second car... See my point...

I hate the way they count mods there.. That's how I ended up in MM:mad: Then score 197/200 and don't make top 3

Sounds messed up, that is why Super Chevy has stock with no changes at all, not even tinted windows, then street with an unlimited number of changes but if you have custom paint, forced induction, or modified body panels you go to modified.

It was frustrating when I went through the Tech line, but it ended with a 1st place trophy so what do I really have to be pissed at...

Clean all the way. But lots of folks at show and shines vote on mod stacking. I will choose a clean un modded (example- chevelle) over a modded one. It is your opinion.
That is why it is best to have a detailed break down for each year of cars like Super Chevy does. :)
Joe are you moving over to the show side of things? I have followed you for my first two post lol. :D
Most of all just plain old personal enjoyment is what counts. ;)

I like to dabble in both showing and racing, but I'll never touch you on the show side of things.
I would like to tidy things up a bit though and have got some plans that will hopefully get me some sort of trophy by the end of summer. Last year i went to my first two shows, the seaview show was actually my first ever, so I'm new to this whole thing, but I'm learning. If you care to give me any pointers that would be great. You should try to make it out to XXX today around 1 or so if you get a chance so i can drool on your engine bay again.

I am posting from work...:( I made it out to Clearview yesterday and there were 15 or so cars there.
And I want to remind you that there was a show you missed that you could of won. ;)
It is just like anything else, pic the show which respects / has newer cars in them. Like Kla La Dazes (sp) probably more older cars will win. Same with the Colby show. Club shows have generation break downs which helps for late model cars. Dealer show are great, they like new cars. Pick and choose the right ones. ;)
Thanks for the kind words, your car is awesome, have fun cruising today. Wish I could be there. :drive:

At a majority of car shows, what is the breakdown of classes? Is it like the super chevy? Is there a different class for daily drivers as compared to show cars? I was just thinking of showing my car wich is stock and is well maintained for being a daily driver.
