My boyfriend has a 1995 Firebird. This past weekend the starter died, only thing is we cant seem to be able to get the old starter out of the car. Anyone ever do this, have any tips?
Edit: OK, let me clarify. The starter itself is completely disconnected and hanging free of the car. The problem is that there isn't enough space to actually take it out of the car. We can't get seem to get the starter wiggled past the y pipe to remove it. No amount of wiggling and repositioning can get it out. It seems like the only 2 options are to either take off the exhaust (not really an option, bolts are too damn rusted. They would all have to be cut off and replaced.) Or to yank the entire transmission. Neither of which are very appealing. Anyone have any tips or tricks to getting this thing out? We've already tried prying the pipes over to gain clearance but can't make enough room. We're going back to try again later and would appreciate any help anyone can give.
Oh, car is completely stock btw.
