Okay I've got a goat, what I would like to do to this car in th future is swap the LS1 heads and cam for the LS6 versions. In addition, I would like to upgrade the rokers to the SLP 1.85s
I do not plan on doing long tube headers and I am also suspect of any CAI/K&N filter stuff.
Basically I would like to keep this car factory appearing/emmisions legal, but still increase performance. I plan on purchasing the head a cam from GMPP vendor and the rockers wereever I can get the best deal.
My question for you guys: Is this a sensable plan or am I on crack/wasting time and money

wasting time and money- get ported 5.3L heads and a comp 218/224 cam and you should have a nice increase even without adding headers

Yeah, but the vette (or any car for that matter) doesn't come from the factory with headers either, I think I'll see an increase in power but not as much as if I id headers and H/C. I do't know if it makes sense from a work involved:money spent: gains made stand point.
I want to build a car that won't have to be put in a crusher if I move out of North Carolina. I am really open to other options as well

yea but the Vette has a really good flowing exhaust manifolds and exhaust. Now I now the GTO has true duals, ( or will) but I still don't know how well the whole package flows.
a small cam with the stock set up, and you could be fine, you put a larger bumpstick and heads, which both require very good breathing..... I too think you maybe in for flow restrictions out the tailpipe...
the GM performance parts hotcam will make more power than the ls6 cam and will work with SLP 1.85s. See numbers in sig.

As improved as the factory exhaust manifolds are over OEM parts from 15 years ago, headers are still the way to go so you get the most from your (H/C) parts.
You're gonna be waiting a bit before you find headers with an EO # most likely, so keep your stock parts and if you need to reinstall them you can.
