I just got this crazy idea that i wanted to put a small block 400 in my v6 Camaro. I talked to my dad and he told me that i needed to go to a wrecking yard and pull an sb400 out of an old pontiac station wagon. Also that i need to get it vatted before i start restoring it. I just wanted to get you guys' opinion on this whole thing. My other choice was to get the 454 big block but my dad said that i would have to give up my AC bcuz there wouldnt be enough room...lol. but i decided that i wanted to keep my AC so i figured i'd go with the sb400 and i just want to know if its goin to work or not. if so then im goin for it.
thanks guys.

after looking at a v6 camaro last weekend.............
i have no CLUE where you'd put it
aside from that, it'd cost you a fortune building a trans/rear/exhaust for it (and i can't imagine getting an injection system that'd work with it and a computer would be cheap), then you'd need to re-enforce the entire frame
not worth it imho
do some extreme mods to the v6 instead

You are better off just getting a Z28/SS Trans Am/WS6. It is cheaper in the long run. I was going to do a LS1 swap on my V6, but after looking at the part list that I need, and the price it just is easyer and cheaper to get a V8 car. It would cost you between 5k and 12k, depending on if you get all used parts or all new parts. You can get a whole car for those prices.

yea i was afraid that someone was goin to say that. but after calling around... i've found that i can pick up a sb400 at a wrecking yard for about $100 - $150 and then get it vatted and just add in parts from there. my dad told me that he has restored a sb400 and a sb350 and it ended up costing around $5-600 total. another thought was the sb350 instead of the sb400.
another subject -- will the transmission that's in my v6 camaro work with a v8 (sb400 or 350)?????? cuz if not then im screwed about putting the 400 or 350 in my car. :(

bahh.. don't let these guys stop yo ufrom doin' something different.
depending on the year of the block, a gen2 block will bolt right up to lt1 motormounts... you'll need the appropriate trans (automatic would work better for drag work) a new drive shaft. the rear could hold the power of the sb400 as long as its a mild build, it takes alot of power in an automatic to kill one.
ya know..... that made me think.....
did you say what YEAR v6 camaro you have?
if you have a 3rd gen.... it'd be much easier to fit a sb400 in there than a 4th gen.....

since his SN is Camaro95 i'm assuming a 95. early 4th gen body style. i'm sayin' it should fit.
