What an unexpected day! i basically just wanted to test drive an lt1 car that happened to be near my house...i had no idea i would end up buying it! 1993 firehawk which has great original paint(been garaged all its life), and everything is in very good shape(took it out for a nice long test drive). I was gonna get a lt1 vette, but this deal was just too damn good to pass up
get some pics up , more info :)

Very nice! I think that 93 is one of the lowest production years for the Firehawk too (out of the 4th gens) so you got a rare find indeed! How many miles on it? Is it modded in any way?

its number 143 out of 201. Its not modded except for what was done by SLP. Its been garaged kept, and its right at 80K miles. I checked it for leaks, misalignments, weird noises, upshifts, downshifts, etc. The guy that had it already changed out the ignition to msd so i dont have to worry about optispark either. Its been fed synthetic oil all its life and has had a tune up recently i believe. As for pictures, i am not gonna be home at any time the sun will be at at all for at least a week. Its never been owned by anyone under the age of 45 :D(tho i know theres some crazy old dudes out there). The guy i bought it from only took it out on days where he could take off the t-tops. I cant believe how clean the thing is. As far as modding it goes, I don't know if i really even want to touch it that much...i might put in an electric cut-out and put in some headers, but other than that keep it the way it is. If i were to go and add a cam and do the heads, would that decrease its long term re-sale value because its not exactly original anymore?

just keep the original stuff and switch it back to stock before selling it if you think it will be a problem :)

Just changing to an MSD ignition box doesn't eliminate the optispark though, it's still there too.

He told me what he did eliminated the optispark problem. at the time i really didn't know exactly what optispark was(and i still dont exactly!)...so how can i check to see if this problem is still there? Isnt it something with the plugs getting fouled for some reason?.

The optispark replaces a traditional distributor on the LT1 engines. Its an optical timing wheel that lives on the crank shaft and can sense cam position and communicate that info to the PCM to tell it when to fire the plugs. Its biggest problem is water. If it gets wet than its finished.
If the previous owner said he fixed the problem than he probably had a "vented" opti installed. They came out on the 95 and up LT1's as a stop gap measure. A vented version allows water to evaporate so as not to cloud up the optical wheel and prevent it from being read by the light. Its not a perfect solution and all optisparks live right underneath the water pump, so if it fails and leaks the opti will go too no matter what.
The idea of an opti is pretty neat its just that its practical application sucks in this case.

Cheap, cheaper than i would have figured...$9,500. I dont really know what the going rate of a car like this would be...in this condition and so on and so forth. I imagine that one day the price of it will go up much like most of the classic muscle cars. I HOPE! but whatever, i am just going to enjoy it and pamper it in the mean time :)

Great purchase, you will love black and hate it. Can be the best looking color when clean, but clean doesn't last too long. Post some pics sometime:drive:
