I have a Kenwood head unit with one of those motorized face plates. The motor for the face plate is shot and now it doesn't turn. Has anyone ever replaced one of those motors? If so, was it hard and where did you get the replacement motor from? Thanks.

I had an Alpine with a motorized face. When I was having problems moving the face, I called Alpine. They said if I opened the caseof the h/u my warranty would be voided. You might want to look into your warrant from where you got it, or call Kenwood and see if they can help

I had a friend with an older Kenwood (I dont know the model number), but the same thing happened as you. His went out, and he looked into replacing it, and it was going to cost more than the unit was worth, so he just got a new one.

it is probally not the motor, we had a bad run of those last year and most of them were the ribbon cable, on a side note that is why i stopped selling kenwood

if a "Bad Run" causes you to stop selling a product line then your gonna be out of product lines eventually.

in the PC world IBM had a line of harddrives (GXP) that would die so often that instead of being the "Deskstar" they were called "Deathstar" i had about 40 of them fail in Dell systems on a college campus. did this cause me to not buy dell... i never bought them to begin with but the college keeps buying them, IBM found a bug in the firmware that would trash the motor after some time, a firmware patch fixed it.

Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital, Hitiachi, have all had these type of problems, if i stopped using the products by them because of that i wouldn't be selling computers. Manfs will fix the problems when the find the cause, either in the new hardware or replace the old if its still in warrenty.
