Wow.. that's a hella deal... I think I paid way more than that for my Zaino and got a lot less... are all of the towels and stuff microfiber? or just regular cloth-type towels?

they look close to me. the zaino claybar is a little more expensive, but you also still get a free applicator pad if you order $25 worth of stuff. and zaino doesn't sell towels.

if i'm not mistaken...

the z1 is a good base layer (but they don't sell it anymore?)...
the zfx is an additive for the z2 and z5 that allows you to add multiple coats one after another without waiting a full 24 hours or so....

They still sell Z1.

I've tried using just Z2 and Z5 on my family's vehicles with no Z1 or ZFX. The coats did not last long.

Tropi-Care TC3 Polish has a pre-mixed bonding agent, eliminating the need for an extra product.

Doesn't Zaino come with two clay bars? That's a big deal to me... I'd want one for my wheels, one for my paint.

Questions:

When you all talk about taking it down to the paint before applying a Tropi-Care type system are you also talking about clearcoat removal with the dawn and alcohol/water solution? I'm a newb to all this so bear with me.

smiley

no - we are talking dawn wash to remoove any old waxes or things on the paint. if you have contaminates embedded in the paint, then you should clay also.

you want your clear coat to stay - that's what protects you paint and makes stuff shiney. that's why many of us recommend any type abrasive as a "last resort". there is only so much clear coat on the car... you don't want to take it off.

Rokko

Okay, just wanted clarification on that clear coat question.

So if I were to start fresh with the Tropi-Care system then I would begin with the dawn wash, then the clay bar, then the dawn wash again, then the system application procedure etc....

OK. Thanks guys.

While here what is the general consensus about the electric buffers.

Is there a model to stay away from? Is there a favorite model?

I just placed an order for the clay bar, polish, detail spray, detail towel, and swirl cutter. I have a pretty decent dual action orbital buffer at home, and I have access to pretty nice applicators.

I used Meguiars the first 3 years I had my car, and then switched to Liquid Glass the last two. I also have a brand new black 2004 Accord that has never been waxed/polish with anything. I will definitely post my results once I get a chance to do both cars.

is the swirl cutter an abrasive? aka does it actually remove the swirls or is it like z5 and jus fill it in?

But is it better than Zaino? I'd pay a bit more for Zaino than to get a cheaper product that doesn't work as well

SuperBuick

What exactly constitutes "better" than Zaino?

There is no one "best" detailing product.

Detailing is a PROCESS not a PRODUCT. Products only work as well as the process you have for using them. If you're not polishing prior to using your Zaino then I you could make canola oil look "better" if you preceded it with a proper polishing job.

Tropi-Care, Zaino, Blackfire, Pinnacle - it doesn't matter - they are all good products on a level playing field. None is "better" than another - they have strengths and they have weaknesses.

Simply asking "is tropi-care better than Zaino?" - all that's going to get is biased replies from people who are loyal to one product or another.

arrogantbaSStard this reply isn't a rant directed towards you in any way, it just frustrates me to see the detailing discussions go the way of "which product is better" - in reality it doesn't matter when your talking about great products (which all of the above are). Its all in the process.

IMO from what i've heard of tropicare .... it seems better b/c
A. You don't have to do the prelok, then the the polish.
B. You don't have to wait an hour for the polish to haze.... people say that TC hazes in a couple minutes which is a BIG plus.

Yes, and yes.

Buffer and foam pad, then buff clean with one of our M4 Polishing Towels for some pretty bad ass results.
