My 275 40 17 Nittos are getting worn down and was curious on how wide of a tire will fit on a stock 17 X 10 rim?

stock wheels are 17x9 not 17x10. Also I wouldn't go bigger than 275
stock ws6 wheels are 17x9.5 and you can put on a 315

315 can fit on a stock, rim but it is not safe. Send Eugenio_SS

Eugenio_SS is telling you "WHY", as requested :D
seriously... don't go bigger than 275/40-17 on stock rims... you want the tires to be mounted properly and not buldge... when buldging occurs, you lose everywhere.... well except looks for some people.
If you want wide tires, get wider rims... I have nothing against wide tires, btw. :D
Remember that a 275/40-17 fit in 17x9" to a 17x11" rim, while the optimal mounting occurs on a 17x9.5"
Also note that the max properly mounted tire one should put on a 17x9" is 275/40-17. So getting a 315/35-17 on a stock rim is purely insane, since that tire is meant to be installed on a rim of size 17x11 to 17x12... quite wider than a 17x9.
Play it smart.

You can, but it would be pointless. The buldge of the tire from being on the wrong size wheel will actually give you less patch area than using a 275. Not to mention the safety issues.
And the stock wheels are 17x9 ;)

I personally wouldn't go larger than a 285/295 on a 9.5

for max performance you want your sidewalls as square to the rim as possible
