Fastest speed, top down?

What's the fastest you've gone top-down?

I hit 115 mph today.

In the desert south of kingsville before brownsville and the mexican border, there is a 130 mile road. No cops, no traffic, no medians, no curbs, no gas, no towns.

Just road.

I got up to past 155, at this point I was in 5th with the tach at 5600 rpm. I dropped it into 6th and mainited a 5500-5800 rpm zone. The needle was well past 155, but I knew it could not be much past 160ish or so.. I could feel it stop pulling.

Whatever I did, I did it for 35 minutes straight between it and 125mph depending on how sharp the curve was.

Some have said a 6spd in 5th at 5950rpm is going 185mph, and that is its top speed. But I dont buy it.

Anyways, with the top down at those speeds, you dont hear sound. You dont hear music or any noise except the constant scream of the engine, and the wind howling over your head. Your hair roots will turn numb within 3 minutes, when you finally stop it will feel like someone is massaging you head for about 15 minutes.. ;)

Its an insane feeling.. They say your ram air actually kicks and and become's functional at about 140mph..

You should try it if you ever find the right road. So far, this is the only road I know of that you can do this for more than 120 seconds..

I don't even know how fast I've had her up to with the top down. Probably about 120. I got her up to 145 with the top up though. That was fast enough for me.

That sounds insane! I can't even imagine.

About the 185, though, I thought I read somewhere that the computer in these cars will only allow them to top out at 167. :dunno: Maybe I mis-read?

Like I said, the 180 est was polly false.

But I do know, that I took the car as absolutly fast as it could possibly go. The needle was almost touching the steering collum!

my friends STOCK 98 Camaro SS has been up past the 155mph marker, top down on I-95 in Virginia...believe me I was there.

BTW it is f-ing loud with the top down going that fast!

In a stock F-body on level ground, you're going to do well just to get to the fuel cut off, which is at 162, with a M6.

An automatic won't get there...

I GPS'ed 175 in my six speed cammed SS, and with the 3.73s, that's pretty much all she had.

Anyone that says a stock LS1 will get close to 180 with the limiter removed is talking out of their ass.

I've also read that the M6 will do 162mph stock. Do you know what the A4 will do flat out? I thought they would be about the same.
