A young guy who works for me just bought a very nice and clean '97 Camaro V6. He hasn't a lot of money, but would like to gain some HP. How much HP would he gain by having the stock mulffler removed and a Flowmaster or Magnaflow muffler installed? I know that on an LS1, we usually realize about 6 RWHP increase. Thanks, Six.

Intake and cat-back on these cars is maybe 7-10hp, but honestly, i didn't feel any difference when i put on my hooker cat-back. The best bolt-on mod he can do, IMO, is headers.

I would go with a 3" dynomax catback if I were him.. coupled with an SLP intake he might see as much as a 10 hp gain. But first, I'd send my pcm to Texas Speed in Lubbock for a tune-up because my car picked up 10 dyno certified hp, and for $350 that can't be beat on a v6 except by nitrous.

If headers are already in place, I'd go for a cam swap.
My car is currently on jack stands with the intent to swap my cam tomorrow, New Lifters, new cam, new timing chain and sprockets + all the gaskets... total cost so far is about $650, but the timing chain needed replacement already (130k). I'm hoping for ~40 Hp gain which I don't think is out of the question. I've already got the headers and 3" exhaust which I'd say is a must before getting a cam.
The cam I went with was the VS cam from zzperformance.com.
