7.0=427. 7.0 can acutaly be many displacements that convert to 7.0 liters. But the 427 has mcuh meaning for super vettes.

No idiot did it.

It was ain't got nuthin. He did this chop for me but, couldn't get the calipers in the right place because of the lighting of the wheels.

Other than the calipers, I think he did an awesome job.

Well, if the rumors of the 7.0L LS7 are untrue, would anyone like to share any better informed rumors? Before I heard the 7.0L rumor, I read the LS7 was going to be a 6.4L. Does this sound more accurate to anyone?

6.4L is what my cousin told me the new 500hp LS7 was going to be, and he would know since he's the engine test engineer at the LS1/LS2/LS6 assembly plant here! He said the LS7 is going to be built elsewhere though, it's different head design necessitated it be built on a different assembly line than what they've got there now.

6.4L does sound a lot more realistic, and it certainly sounds like your cousin would know. Thanks for the info!

They just opened an engine plant in Willox, Mich to hand build motors. 6.4 might be a nice, but to pass emissions and other gas milage requirements, they might have to go to a 7.0. I heard 6.4, and then I kept hearing 7.0 a lot.

Consider this- with that 4.000 bore all you should need to get 427ci is a stroker kit.

ahh, back to the 4 inch bore... NOW its a small block! :dunno: I didn't look up the bore X stroke you need for a 427. I was just thinking that since the LS1/6 are 3.900 bores, that it should be easier to get extra cubes out of the LS2, since it's a larger bore to begin with.

It looks like the cylinders would need to be bored out a little, to 4.125, to get about 427ci with a 4.000 stroke. :)

Cam
03-10-2004, 06:37 AM
... and since we're speculating, here's what I think the LS7 is gonna be.

LS2 shorblock (4.000 bore) with a 3.900 stroke for 6.4L.

These were posted on 3/10 by "norm" on digital corvettes:

I have seen almost final assembly diagrams of the ZO6
and can tell you that the front of the ZO6 has an air scoop just
infront of the hood line. In addition, the engine will be a 7.0 L
producing 495 to 500 hp. Special brakes will also be in the ZO6
package. Battery placement will be in the rear of the car.

re: the air scoop
it's above the front license plate holder, an air inlet duct, very similar to the Ferrari GTS 550 Maranello hood scoop, but much closer to the front of the car.

These assembly diagrams did not have wheel type or
placement information. Now that I remember, I don't recall seeing
a license plate holder but the front air dam was a meshed in.
Very similar to the C5R GTS LeMans car.

Couple of more items; I was told the engine was
pumping more than 550 HP but because of transmission reliability
and emission issues they are detuning quite a bit. The pictures
show a coup with a fixed roof. But again looking at the assembly
build diagrams looks like you could take a wrench and unbolt the
top very easy.

hmmm scoop near the front nose of the car, closer then a 575? hmmmm...reminds me of...

http://www.fast-autos.net/dodge/vipersrt103.jpg
now Im not one to bash the C6 design... but its realllly starting to look like a Viper now. I was hoping for a more L88 hood bulge desing, but this is cool too. It sounds like its really gunna look like a Viper.

you guys think that GM will stick to the hyper.pistons,PM rods, and iron cranks.i hope not.i'd be nice to have about 9.5 comp. with a foreged bottom-end(ready for a blower)either way i'm not sure if GM would want to have multi-year warranties on 500hp.engines with the same bottom-end they have now,i know they're reasonably strong, but dang 500hp!stock!

As being an Engineer on a C6/Z06 component, I'll see my first '06 Z06's in about a month, and I can't wait. I really wish I could share what I know & have seen already, though... Two points to consider - Dave Hill is a very demanding person, and Dave Hill gets what he wants. :)

I will say that '06 will be a GREAT year.

We will be taking about this till all the rumors are dead and gone.Either way it will have to be as good or better than the Viper and to do that it has to have 500+ hp and as much torque.Whatever it takes,if I have to sell both Birds or go in debt and postpone retirement,I will have a 2006 C6 ZO6 in my garage next year.
