Hi,
I know its a stupid question , I'm sorry .
but some one asked me that .... " LS2 has more c.i. than ZO6 and has 90 mm TB and has the same heads with ZO6 .... so why it has less power than ZO6 ?? or let say a similar power ..... why ?? "
I answered him that the problem is that LS2 has smaller cam than what ZO6 has .... I am not sure about the spec. of LS2's cam but I am sure its smaller.
did I answered him right ???
any help ??
thanks
The LS2 basically uses a cam with specs similar to the 01 LS6 cam. If I were to guess, I'd say the reason it makes comparable (or slightly less) power than the C6 Z06 has to do with tuning.

Not to mention the Z06 needs to keep a higher hp rating (even if a little) for the simple reason that it is, well, a Z06.
We will have to see later if the hp ratings are slightly underrated for the LS2 though, when cars can be broken in.

Another reason the LS2 may have slightly less power than LS6 is because the LS6 has hollow stem valves which mean lower reciprocating (back-and-forth) valve-train mass. This means less power is used to move these parts and compress the valve springs (which can have a lower springrate when valvetrain reciprocating mass is lower, while still preventing valve-float).
those numbers are just factory ratings. the dynos are showing a different story. It could be alot of things from exhaust manifolds to to tuning though.
How about compression, LS6 10.8 to 1 LS2 ?

the LS2 is a base engine and ZO6 is a exclusive top of the line Vette-its marketing-the HP numbers might be a couple more for the ZO6 but the LS2 should have more torque

LS2 has a higher compression ratio. I don't remember the numbers but I've read about it in several reliable sources.
I want to say the LS2 compression is 10.8, and the LS6 is 10.6.

:sillyme: Thanks. I went looking for the LS2 compression ratio on a few sites but couldn't find it.

Isn't the heads of the LS2 the same casting as the LS6?

here's a thought, will the LS2 6.0 heads fit on the LS1 6.0 block? or are they totally different?

Yes same castings. Wait til people have had time to play with the LS2 it will be flying. The Z06 is also 300-400lbs lighter but that will change.

Nate The Z06 is about 200 lbs lighter than my C6, so I dunno what you are smoking...
Also my car dynoed 350/342 with an AUTO, so It is a fair guess that the LS2 is underrated to make the LS6 boys feel good... Most LS6s make in the high 340 range stock with a M6...

The LS2 dynos I've seen so far have all been in the low 340 range for stock M6's. Your auto put down 350 rwhp?

It made 348 on its first pull pulling timing in an 85 degre humid garage!

hey guys....first post on this forum....for what its worth, my 2002 Z06 dynoed at 368 rwhp and 358 rwtq. That was STOCK with 23,000 miles on the clock. Jason at MTI did say those were rather good numbers for a stock car, but I just thought Id add my .02
