What's the consensus? Are you staying with Tropi-Care or going back to Zaino?

I've been using Zaino exclusively for 5 years now - but this Tropi-Care seems similar to Zaino and I was thinking about ordering some up...

Just looking for a change, I guess.

I'm thinking of at least trying out their polish...

I'm doing a comparison here shortly. I've been using Zaino for about a year and since I'm out I'm weighing my options.

Check my other thread for details, but it may be a couple weeks before we can get some feedback.

Wether or not you think I am biased as a Tropi-Care Distributor, I've used Zaino for 5 years as well. It is great stuff, but I'll never go back on my personal vehicles... it's just too much work and the results are not as rewarding- especially with Zaino's current formulas.

Stang Man,

I saw that thread - great idea - hopefully it will answer alot of questions... Looking forward to the results...

Cody,

Do you know if putting Tropi-Care over a Zaino'ed vehicle is OK - or would you recommend claying before the first application of Tropi-Care?

Thanks.

If you want the best results, you need to clay your surface first. This is regardless of whatever product you choose to use. If it is anything like Zaino, it will not bond to anything but clean, contaminant free paint. Tropi-care might be a little more forgiving than Zaino, but I've not had any experience with the stuff, so I cannot attest to its ease of use.

Whenever I go to do some work on my paint, I follow a very stringent process...it takes a lot of time, but the results to me are worth it.

Yes its fine... clay bar will not totally remove the Zaino though. On Zainoed cars, I normally wash with Dawn, Clay Bar, and Dawn again.

I wanted a clean slate to start with when I switched to TC on my car. I had the fenders, hood, and nose repainted. I used rubbing alcohol on the rest of the car, and it seemed to strip the Zaino pretty well. Try it if you wish, but it is not necessary.

Yeah, Zaino is a bitch to get off...

I've used them both on either my car or others cars I was doing. I'm yet to have time to use the tropi-care on my car but I've done a couple cars and a few harleys with it and it has a MUCH deeper look than zaino IMO. It's super easy to put on after you get the hang of it, I was putting it on to think at first, just dampened my pad and it went on nice and thin just like zaino.

Sounds a lot like the Blackfire I switched to...I love the deep look, so I'll have to give this stuff a whirl when I run out :yup:

Dawn by itself won't pull much Zaino off..

Use a 50/50 rubbing alcohol/water mix in a spray bottle and a cotton pad over the surface between Dawn washes.

You need to make sure your paint gets nekkid!

:D hehe, i don't want anyone complaining about zaino's durability after this thread ;)

yeah zaino has awsome durability but the steps are a pain the butt.......I used zaino from the first day I bought my car but then tropi-care came along and I haven't looked back

Right... I mentioned that in another thread, and forgot to say anything about it in this one. Thanks :)

Ok thanks for all the input.

I ordered up some of what I consider to be the essentials from Tropi-Care...

TC-3 Polish
TC-5 Detail Spray
TC-6 Car Wash
TC-M1 Polish Applicator

Once I get a chance to give the Tropi-Care treatment I'll be sure to post my impressions. Specifically on how I feel it compares to Zaino.

The only question I have is on the 50/50 rubbing alcohol mix...
Is there anything to be careful about when doing this? Like keep it off the rubber molding or anything - or is it safe to use without worrying about any overspray getting on the non-painted surfaces?

Damn ,
This site has a new vehicle care sponsor and all the Zanio believers jump ship like rats on a sinking ship.

Too funny!!!
I use just regular zymol wax, the car stays in the garage so it works good. I may try some tropi care though. Just thought it was funny how people tick.

I still use Zaino. :dunno:

I am wanting to try the Tropi-Care products, though... I'm kinda in a good place to do it since my STi is brand new and has never seen Zaino yet... while my Formula has been Zaino'ed for several years now..

I honestly hadn't heard of them until they became a sponsor on the board.... and even though I've been a diehard Zaino guy for years (and used to be a Zaino distributor), I'm willing to give them a shot and see how they compare.

I don't believe any product is the "end all"... and there's always the possibility something else may come along that is better.

Man I'm all confused...last season I put something on from Dupont called RS2000...was a b!!ch to find and cost quite a bit for 2 little bottles, but was referred to me by my boss and he swore it was the best thing ever. It was a 2 part....first a stripper and then a clear coat....it worked really well all season I thought...just after a simple wash it looked like it was just waxed...

not me. i'm sure most people know me as a hardcore zaino user. until i find something better... zaino it is. i have not used tropicare so i cannot comment on them. :dunno:

Is this tropicare as durable as Zaino? I use Zaino but havent applied any in almost a year, and both my cars still look just as good.

Does tropicare offer any interior detailing? Leather conditioner ect?

smiley
03-12-2004, 09:22 PM
from their website they do offer interior products (leather), tire and rubber, glass cleaner....

not sure about durability and protection. since it's a new product - i don't know what tests we can look at. maybe gurureports will test some for us or something. durability and protection are on the top of my list, i would like to know how tropicare relates....

I think a great test for Tropi-Care is to offer some free sample packs over at Autopia (http://www.autopia.org/forums/index.php) - just some 1oz bottles of the stuff. They'll let you know in a hurry how it stands up to the competition...

Really intersting site BTW - there's lots and lots (and lots) of detailing info over there.

I would use Tropi-Care if I thought it was better too. I love Zaino, but I might try something else. There really seems to be a buzz about Tropi-Care.

The red T/A I saw in another thread deatiled with Tropi-Care looks great, but my Formula looks just as good IMO with Z.

Jantzen,

Sending you a PM.

I've been to Autopia a couple of times... we'll look into it.

Thanks!

I'm considering giving tropi-care a try. I've always used Zaino on the TA and while it is durable and had a pretty good deep shine, it wasn't as good as I had hoped and heard.

TC is better than Zaino in my own opinion. For one thing, you get all the shine, deep look, and durability of zaino with Tropi-care without all that mixing of z1 and zfx. You just put the wax on, and take it off. I think TC actually looks deeper and shines better than zaino and I have a black car, so I can tell these things quite easily. Plus TC is cheaper in price

I have an idea. I'm a diehard Zaino user, for about 3 years. Send me a couple of 1 or 2 oz bottles of the stuff and I'll let you know how it comes out ;)

I've been a diehard Zaino fan also (since 1999). I hang with a few car show freaks. They've been doing car shows(and judging) for years. They've got 15k+ paint jobs on their early 1970's Z28's. After I showed them Zaino they made the switch and have never looked back. The love the stuff. Is TC really that much better. At this point it would be hard to switch me but I'd be interest to try it on one of my daily drivers. I just don't want to strip all my hard work off the SS!

What did those show car freak friends of yours used to use?

I'm a show car freak and I don't hold anything against Zaino but I've found many things to work better on my show applications (in terms of shine - durability not an issue)
