Guys tell me about your cars. I'm considering getting rid of the WS6 for a used C5. I was recently told though the Corvette actually rattles more than the f-body
What are your likes and dislikes about your car?

You were misinformed about the Vette rattling more than the F-body. I cant find anything wrong with mine except that it needs more power. :fangs:

The first you will notice between the Vette and the F-body is how much more solid the Vette is :D

My 98 TA rattled quite a bit. The Vette has yet to rattle, and it does feel much more solid.

I'll probably end up getting a C5 very soon. The plan was just to wait till the WS6 was paid off then buy a C5. But my old man said if I pay back the money I owe him from when I was jobless he'll co sign on one now.
I'll glady trade my WS6 for a black C5. All my parts would be able to go on the Vette except the headers and lid.

They don't call it the "f-body rattle" for nothing. My SS rattled like an epileptic crackwhore. The vette is very solid.

well the 2002 ss has 2500 miles and really has no rattles (yet).
2003 c5 vert has 6500 miles and no problems as well.
personally, i like the SS better. The family got the vette before the SS, so I drove that car first. At the time loved it, now that I have the SS i would rather drive around in it...dunno why...I just like it more. Probably because I prefer the rougher car, less refined.

The only thing I dislike about my vette over my old f-bodies is that the mods cost twice to three times as much for a vette !:(
And i have no Rattles !

I owned a '99 SS before the 'Vette. The rattle comment is pure BS. I loved the SS, but love the C5 even more.
What don't I like about it? The fact that I can't drive it year-round living in PA. :D

Absolutely the main problem.. the parts are very expensive, labor, and tuning only add to the cost...

labor? No one touches my cars but me. But the parts do cost more.

but i bought my 98 in 98 and still have it 35k on it and no rattles still. But i think my lopey cam is going to rattle some shit apart..;)
Over all night and day with the fifth generation vettes,,,maybe someone was refering to the C4

I never had any rattles on my C5. Like others have said the vette is much more solid compared to any Camaro or WS6 I have driven.
On top of that I think the looks of the vette are MUCh better than that of an f-body. :D

Hey Steve,
Move to San Antonio, TX.
BTW, my Gf's 95 Camaro rattles something awful. The 2002 NHRA SE Trans Am I traded in for my 2001 C5 Coupe did not rattle at all with the SLP STB & BMR SFCs. However, my C5 does not have any rattles either & rides like on rails around curves, and that is w/o any suspension mods. IMHO, my C5 is a waaay better all around ride than the TA I had but I'll always love the FBody Birds & Camaros. My line of thought is the FBody is the BEST American Muscle Car & the C5/Z06 is the BEST American Sports Car.

Cept one thing, F-bodies are not muscle cars, they are poney cars :D Sorry, couldn't resist :wall:
Hey trooper, I just found out that Kuhmo makes an all season/winter tire that fits stock C5 sizes.
My C5 has a rattle that comes and goes right in the center dash, but that didn't start untill after the dealer opened it up to replace the bulbs behind the dic buttons and I was scared to let him go back in to fix what ever he screwed up in the first place. I figured I could live with that one rattle then let that nut back under my dash.

:hm: I don't care to debate or pull the trigger on the flame thrower but I have always, and will continue to, think of the F-Bodies as MUSCLE CARS, okay. Now then, I feel better. :D
Hey trooper, I just found out that Kuhmo makes an all season/winter tire that fits stock C5 sizes. BTW, I love my Kumho MX Ecsta tires but they've never been in the snow. Not much snow here in Central Texas. They handle great in the rain, though.

Her dash does the shake rattle & roll really well, and its all stock.

Hi. I have a C5 and a WS6. They are different, but I enjoy both and the only C5 rattles I have ever had are from the removable tops on the coupe Don't mean to dwell on the negatives, much more good to say about it, but here are a few routine things on the C5 that I don't like compared to the WS6, mostly from stupid engineering designs:
1. If you are getting a used one, '01's can be big time oil burners. They came with defective rings and you may have to go through the usual GM brain damage to get it fixed.
2. Run the passenger power window frequently. It can freeze up if you don't. You have to slam the door with the engine running and your finger on the window buton to fix it.
3. The Sport Seats look cool but the foam is marginal and the leather is really cheap and wears fast, at least on earlier models. No wear on the WS6. At one time GM had service bulletins out on it because they were so bad.
4. The Sport Seats have a lot of whoopdy-do adjustments but run on some real cheesy rails with a plastic gear inside. The plastic gear wears real fast just from sitting in it and then the seats start rocking. Big $ to get fixed if not under warranty. A lot of guys have 2x4's behing the seat to keep it from rocking.
5. I hate that front skid bar. I can't get in and out of my driveway without the front end scraping on a stock height car, even when new, let alone through a cross-gutter at more than 20 mph. There are semi-fixes available. It kind of depends what the roads are like where you live, but scraping metal and "What's wrong with your car?" gets a little old as a conversation starter.
6. I forget what year they changed it, because they had 3 different designs, but the headlamp adjusting plugs blow out on the earlier models when you are driving down the street. It cost me about $40 wholesale just to put some $.50 plugs back in on the first C5 I had because you have to replace the entire black plastic shroud to use the newer plugs and they won't sell you the older plugs. That or buy some duct tape.
7. I never had it, but other guys I know complain about the steering column locking up. Make sure it's been fixed under warranty or more bills for you.
8. Big $ for shocks on F-45 cars.

I'm really surprised my '96 doesn't rattle at all.
And, frankly, I beat the snot out of it.
I don't take the top off because it's a wiggly worm without it. Clearly it's a piece needed for structural integrity.
I've been in plenty of C5's, haven't heard them rattle. I'm sure that problem is really related to earlier C4s, as I have heard a lot of them rattle. Things just loosen up on a 15-20 year old car.
And, if any car rattles, you can track it down and tighten it up.
You know what.... maybe my car DOES rattle but I can't hear it over the exhaust or the police sirens behind me.
:p

Im thinking about sellin my TA to get a C5 also. Still deciding if I want a regular C5 or a Z06.
I test drove a 2000 M6 w/ 9,000 miles on it, and it was rattle free. Felt like a very sold car. It rode much better than my two F-bodies. I was actually hoping I wouldn't like it, but I did!! Anybody wanna buy a 99 TA w/ 20,000 miles on it?? :D

My bf used to have a C4, it rattled a little but not enough to make you want to scream or pull your hair out! His 99 C5 is perfect, no shakes or rattles, rides like a dream, has like 20K miles on it. He's put it through nitrous too but thats been takin off since we are going a different route:firey:
